can someone give me a reason to watch this movie?

im not trying to be sarcastic but i tried watching this film twice. the first time i fell asleep and the second time, i couldnt get through the first scene. i like jarmusch but i just could not see where this film could possibly go. i am going to give it a third try, but can someone give me a reason to watch this movie? ie... what to expect, what they got out of it, or if its worth it?

Dialogue, basically. If you appreciate great dialogue, this movie could be for you...but I'm not necessarily saying this movie has great dialogue either (overall atleast). It has its extremely awesome moments, and it has its pretty awful moments. But if you couldn't make it through the movie on two attempts, then you probably just won't ever get through it unless you physically force yourself, which isn't at all enjoyable and completely defeats the purpose of watching movies. It wasn't meant to have a climactic plot, but to have more or less just a pretty clever premise, in my opinion. Although, like I said earlier, some of the sketches are much, much better than others.

So, basically, in my long and drawn out way, I'm saying that if you like good dialogue you may like this movie, but if you don't like this movie, it doesn't necessarily mean you don't like good dialogue, if you can follow me.

Okay, heres one. In a later scene, Bill Murray meets up wit Wu-tang. He drops the n-bomb, and Wu tang go and shoot up the place. Bill takes a bullet in the chest, collapsing a lung. This old woman in the background suffers a fatal heart attack, before being knocked off of her Rascal by a spray of gunfire. And then Bill Murray appears with a flame thrower. He lights his cigarette on the flames and then commences to torch the place. Then Cate Blanchette runs in naked and chains Bill to a wall, commencing to provide oral sex while Bill continues to burn the building down.

Somewhere in the midst of battle, Iggy Pop and Tom Waits and the Giant Robo make an appearance, and we hear this hard hitting industrial music playing as Giant Robo shoots rockets out of his bass drum. Tom still can't find himself on the jukebox, so he sets a wall of liquor bottles on fire.

SPOILER: Iggy Pop shoots Wu Tang AND Bill Murray dead, but Vinny Vella and Vinny Vella Jr come in with tommy guns and leads everybody out to the lake to seal their feet in concrete. Taylor Mead saves the day though, but you might have to watch it to find out how.

Sounds good? Okay when your done posting on the Spiderman and Men in Black forums, you can watch it again to see what you were sleeping through. goddamn...

watch it to see jack white revert to his teenage years. hearing him actually use his speaking voice made me realize why the white stripes are so controlling of their image. jack white is actually a science fair enterin' d&d dork.

I was extremely skeptical the first 20 minutes or so, I'll admit it took a lot to get through it, and I almost quit. However, the second half really caught my attention. I thought Meg and Jack White were great, it seemed so rediculous. The rest after that seemed pretty funny as well. It's not pie in the face funny, but I got quite a few laughs out of it. I loved how the later skits referenced the former, but put a comedic spin on it ("Tesla percieved the earth as a conductor of acoustical resonance"... "i have no idea what you're talking about.."). As long as you're not ignorant like this crystal meth guy, and you can watch the whole thing through, it does have its moments.

I really liked it. The guy who reccomended it to me gave me a fairly accurate description of what it was like, so i dunno. i laughed at some places that were so funny! I dont think its some spectacular piece which everyone just must see, but I found it interesting and enjoyable.. ah well. it brought a smile to my face, thats all that counts i guess

I saw this film and I liked it. Sure it wasn't the greatest film of all time and some of the sketches were slow, but it did have some very funny moments.

As for giving you a reason to watch the film... what can I say? Do people need reasons to watch films these days? Should we let recommendations or good reviews influence what we watch over other movies.
My advice is watch every movie you come across and formulate your own opinions. You say you tried watching it twice and didn't like it - that's fine. There isn't something you didn't 'get' in this film it simply isn't your choice of movie.

A lot of views on these boards are consistantly negative and I don't understand this. I'm not talking about constructive criticism (which is fine) but really nasty comments such as: 'i hate this movee it is soo crap and if you like it u r an art hous lovin freek', etc, etc.
Surely if you dislike a film so much you wouldn't give over precious time berating it to the extents I have seen. These forums could be so much better if people were free to share opinions on films they enjoy with others in friendly enviroments.
I'm sure there are many opinated people that often refrain from posting due to the negative atmosphere in many of these boards. I count myself as one.

but what would the imdb boards be without irrelevant flaming. frankly, i prefer having every other post read [message removed by an administrator].

edit: by the way this thread was very helpful. i ran into a similar problem the original poster had, and am about to give the movie a second chance thanks to everyone's input

If you don't like it, don't watch it. It's as simple as that.
