Loved it, hated it
I've enjoyed every Jarmusch film I've seen. I like the 'short stories all rolled into one', especially Mystery Train and Four Rooms where they are all connected somehow. I also like seeing the recurring choice of actors in Jarmusch's films.
Coffee and Cigarettes just didn't do it for me. Cinematographically speaking, it was pretty cool - this is a good movie to watch late at night on a big screen in the dark while drinking...coffee? Or maybe a 6-pack of beer. It took me 2 nights to finish this film, and I almost gave up. I got bored. The segments were so short, out of context, and almost completely unrelated to one another. Overall, it was just pretty boring, I'm sorry to say.
I did gain more respect for the film learning it was shot over a span of 17 years. That's dedication.
If anything, it's a good piece for human or extraterrestrial society to watch and ponder over 500 years from now, if it survives that long.
