favourite segment?

i found the steve coogan/alfred molina segment absolutely hilarious!

classic coogan, on his best form as usual, and nice to see molina doing naturalistic comedy. he holds his own against coogan in every frame, shifting the balance perfectly with each twist.

i also enjoyed meg and jack white's section. although it was much more subtle than the coogan/molina piece, for a couple of untrained actors they conveyed a real sweetness and sensitivity.

not all of the film was to my taste but i'm not sure the ripping it got was completely deserved. i still enjoyed it and was not left disappointed.

i loved the very last segment, and the meg/jack white one. the last one was my all-time favorite, it showed so much about the characters in such a short amount of time. the man on the right was a lovely character, all his lines made me smile or think.
the white stripes segment was also very well done. there was some hidden prejudice in there, i think, with jack acting like he knew everything... and then, in the end, meg and the janitor knew just as much, possibly more even, because they were not so closed to other options as jack was. clever.

aaaanyway. was anyone else completely in love with jack's speaking voice? *swoon*

The Alfred Molina and Steve (Coogan) segment.

Man alive, I laughed to damn much.

ALFRED
And love me.

As I stated before, in the other thread on this topic, it probably goes:

1. Cousins
2. Cousins?
3. Jack shows Meg his Tesla Coil

reply

Hmm very hard, probably the opening and closing vignettes, Delirium and Twins..

I loved how the RZA and the GZA refered to bill murray in his full name the whole scene. never 'bill' or 'Mr. Murray'. Just struck me as funny. it was also interesting to watch the facades and social idiosycrasies the people put on throughout the movie. Maybe a bit too cliche indie, but all in all great illustration/foray into human conversation.

They were all good, but Buscemi steals the show.

Mine most favorite segment was "Somewhere in California". Tom Waits, of whose music i'm a big fan, *beep* with Iggy Pop was just hilarios imho.

Runner-up for me was "No Problem" i found it very funney how the one kept asking iff there was an problem. And the other one kept saying everything was fine. This one with the meeting of two old friends who constant say "How are you?" "Fine". "No problem?" "No problem, you?" was also the most recognisable for me. It reminded me very much to how a conversation goes when you meet an old friend or something.

Absolutely "Cousins?"

It´s just perfect! ehehhehehhehehee

reply

Same here; Cousins? was perfect. and I liked Iggy scene

The Greatest one has to be "Champagne". I loved Bill Rice, the older man. He was the most hilarious character I have seen in a while. Nothing else to say. It left me on the ground. Second place: Because I love Wu Tang: "Delirium"

The Wu Tang Clan:

RZA
GZA
ODB
Inspektah Deck
Raekwon the Chef
U-Godzilla
Ghostface Killah
Masta Killa
Method Man

Champagne.
I just adore Taylor Mead's face when Bill says "And to New York in the 1970s"...he kind of sneers and says "Uh, really?? Okay..." or something like that.
Too cute.

All of the segments are so good. And they're actually building the contrast. They're so alike and so different, and each of them has his part in the whole "series". If you watch the whole film through - it's one thing. You keep watching and you feel that everything is great. But you can watch a segment seperately and this way, I'd prefer to watch "Somehere in California", "Cousins?" or "Delirium", I guess.

Just saw this yesterday. Favorites:

a) Delirium
b) Champagne
c) Cousins?

Champagne was beautifully acted, very funny and yet strangely sad/touching.

I thought the White Stripes segment was probably the worst. It just wasn't funny...

I'm a big fan of The White Stripes and I loved their part, when Jack walks away and the wagon is squeaking I just started laughing because I am always the one to get the squeaking shopping trolley at the supermarket.

I love all of them, but my least favorite is cousins and twins. The best are Somewhere in California and the one with the white stripes. I do love that line though that Roberto Beningi says at the beginning. "Do you know my mother?" i was laughing so hard. I love Steven wrights expressionless face.

Delirium

I love Roberto's and Cate's. I almost forgot that it was her playing both parts when I was watching it. But, my absolute favorite is Cousins? with Molina and Coogan (AKA GENIUS). Absolutely hilarious! Steve's face at the end when Alfred gets up to leave! Classic! Ugh Coogan is a god.

Strange to Meet You was amazingly funny. Those two balanced each other out perfectly. I have to say that Champagne is my favorite though. It was the perfect ending. Rice and Mead were soooo old, yet still so full of life, and wit and opinion. They were very funny and entertaining, yet at the end of it I felt really sad. All based on Coffee and Cigarettes. Awesome.

I think the worst episodes are those at the beginning. The first one is terrible and Benigni is even worse. Also the one with the good and evil twin was rather bad.

I really liked the Cousins episode. A brilliant performance by Blanchett. Amazing how diffenrent the two characters she performs are. I also liked the scene with the two men and the boy. Good acting on that! Molina/Coogan was basically good. Just a bit too long...

i think the coogan/molina and iggy/waits parts where the best. so hilarious. especially when molina's phone rang and coogan checked his coat after telling molina he didn't have a cell phone.
great great piece of film.
