Remake of The Deep?
From the film synposis this sounds like a remake/loose adaptation of The Deep. That about right?
Anyone know how it comapres with that movie, in tone, plot etc?

I'd agree on that. Certainly a number of variations and details, but the basic premise is much the same with key plot features. I've not seen any formal references to link these two movies, but it's hard not to see Into the Blue as a loose remake of The Deep.
There's real life ... and then there's films!
Yes, saw it last night and it pretty much is a remake so its odd that there's no reference to it.
Bit too MTV and cheesy in the direction, much less realistic so less tension.
Bit unsure why that other girl died. Considering the size of the shark which attacked her she didn't appear to be even scratched.
Not a bad film though.
Half her thigh missing equals "didn't appear to be even scratched"? Plus, I think it also took hold of her arm, but I'm not sure about that. But the thigh bite was seen more clearly than I'd ever care to experience in real life.

It's not the size of the shark, it's the slash of the teeth. Most sharks don't like the taste of people, but they bite to find out. Ever touch a shark's tooth?
Just a little bite can do ya if it gets an artery.
"They sucked his brains out!"
INTO THE BLUE was a product of Columbia Pictures which also financed THE DEEP. Even more telling: the Executive Producer of ITB was Peter Gruber who was the producer of THE DEEP. While not crediting Benchley's novel, it's mighty suspicious.
shareIt's not a remake of "the Deep" but a retelling of the "Race for the Yankee Zephyr"

The 2008 film "Fools Gold" has more in common with "The Deep" as it deals with the recovery of gold from a sunken galleon.
Nice One.
shareI thought that The Deep had more atmosphere than Into The Blue but it wasn't a better movie.I would say they are about equal.Into The Blue would have been better without the cheesy music in the soundtrack. Also if it had less cheesy action sequences and less violence too.It was unnecessary for the story.
shareJust watched Into The Blue again last night, plus on daytime TV this week was the Deep, watched that again, love them both, got to agree so much Tommyuk, 'Blue' is cheesy, if you could drop some of those scenes and music it would come across so beautiful and tense, but maybe double up scenes of Jessica, what a gorgeous woman.
Photography of both is superb.

I've seen both films several times and without commenting on their respective qualities, let me say I'm amazed Peter Benchley or whoever had the rights to "The Deep" never sued. The main plot lines are virtually identical! You would just naturally think ITB is an updated version of The Deep, they are so similar.
shareToo bad Jessica Alba didn't recreate the Jacqueline Bissett wet t-shirt scene. THAT would have been nice!
"My girlfriend sucked 37 d*cks!"
"In a row?"
Now that would have been awesome - even tho it was Bissett's stunt double who did that - and she had her arm dislocated or broken during that stunt.
shareI absolutely thought the same thing. I have both movies because I love underwater cinamatograghy and scuba divng. I will choose Jessica Alba over Jackie Bissett easily no contest.. just a personal preference. The Deep is a true classic though.
