It is a re-imagining of a so so 70's show that most people liked or at least tolerated and definately the finest work Jay whatsisname ever turned out. The comedy is pretty much the same as you would get in most modern comedies and the action is intense and plentiful and so what if Jessica Simpson sucks she does a good job of sucking. Maybe people are getting this movie confused with that prequel Dukes of Hazzard in the Beginning which DID suck.
My friends loved it. They were the guys who got me into Jackass which is kinda funny. I think Johnny Knoxville is a talented guy but has been typecast into doing only one type of character, and it's not a character I'm personally very fond of.
Sean William Scott I think is a good actor as well, and I think the public has done the same thing to him. They're used to him acting like Stifler, which was cool in American Pie but gets old to me. Just my opinion. Anyone else I know would watch anything Stifler-related and say it was gold.
That having been said. I watched the original series and kinda got ribbed about it sometimes because I was born about the time the show was canceled. I thought Willie Nelson as Uncle Jessie could've been cool, but he just smoked a lot of weed and seemed kinda foul. Jessica Simson, IMO, was in the ballpark of Daisy from the show. But I think the script or her handlers dictated that she act the way the movie portrayed her. Could've been some good acting experience, but idk. Meh. She wasn't sexy in that "who, me?" kinda way that the original Daisy was. It made her seem really sweet in the original series. SWS and Knoxville, IMO, played the part of every nameless frat guy in, like, any Will Ferrell movie. You could've actually had Will Ferrell play both of their parts and do the same thing. I didn't feel like they were Bo and Luke Duke. They were just two guys.
I disagree that the movie was a reimagining (I'm assuming that's a word, before someone gets technical and flames me for it) of the original series. But it didn't use any of the original pieces of the series. Best example I can think of is the new Dodge Challenger. That's a reimagining of the 1970 Challenger. it kept the basic idea of the original with some updates. Now, a lot of people would disagree with you if you claimed that the new Charger was a reimagining of the 1st gen Charger.
Maybe this is a better example. That Romeo and Juliet movie with Leo DiCaprio was a reimagining of Shakespeare's play. They made it modern, kept the important parts, very cool. Just my opinion.
Now, I couldn't give someone a hat and say it was the remake of a shoe. I couldn't give my grandmother balls and call her a reimagining of grandpa.
The movie retained the title of the series, the names of its main characters, and the Charger. Take out the car and the names and I would never in a million years have ever guessed that this was influenced by the original series.
I like this movie. Jessica Simpson never looked hotter. Especially when she walks into the police station in that red bikini and the music video.
I'd have to go along with the 70s kids theory. They compare this movie to their show they remember viewed through nostalgia hindsight.
Hell I've done that with the original G1 Transformers. Remembering the cartoon as being awesome, then watched some eps on DVD and it really wasn't that great. But at least it gave us kick ass toys.
The Tv Show was 10 times better than this stupid movie. It is waaay too dirty to be Dukes of Hazzard. The movie was terrible. Jessica Simpson is NOT daisy duke. I don't like her anymore because of this movie. She raped my childhood. The prequel to this is even worse. It doesn't even follow the first feature film, let alone the show. It's like it's own closed off nonsense universe. These two movies turned Dukes into something it's not. 20 years down the line I don't want people remembering Dukes as some stupid slut fest, I want the old series to be remembered. I am proud to say I won all 7 seasons and the 2 REAL movies, the tv specials on DVD. I love Johnny Knoxville in Jackass, but this is a disagrace. Why Johnny? WHY?! Why Jessica? WHY?! Why sean? WHY!!!! WILLIE!!! NO!!!!
People need to stop with this rape of my childhood crap. It is said on South Park once and the drones of the world keep repeating with tears in their eyes. If a different take of a story effects you that much, go seek professional help.
As for the movie, the cast was right but the script was terrible and it changed too much from the original concept of the show. I grew on the original as well, I liked most of the casting but the film just fell flat on its face. They tried to change the characters too much. If works, don't fix it!
