DANNY DEVITO WOULD'VE BEEN BETTER AS BOSS HOGG...

THAN BURT REYNOLDS.I did see someone else on this message board with the same idea, but I was thinking the same thing and was going to post it anyway,I guess great minds think alike.Danny and Burt are about equal in the star power department, they both probably have just as many fans.Burt is mainly known for his sly sex symbol roles, this part didn't call for that.Danny would have brought the same stature and girth to the role as the original actor did, plus the connivingness from his other movies like Ruthless People and Deck The Halls.

I think the reason that they didn't include Lulu in the movie is that they knew they f!@#ed up with the choice of Burt.If they would have used Danny as Boss a good actress for the role of Lulu would have been Kathy Kinney.

Burt Reynolds won a Raspberry award for worst supporting actor as Boss Hogg in this movie.

It not Burt's fault though, the actors just go along for the ride, after all it's a paycheck and another role for their resume.

Agree i though at first they was talk getting him for the part. Not that burt wasnt funny at all but Boss Hogg is suposed to be short and Chubby

he is from new jersey
Sorrell Booke was from New York.

I'm watching re-runs right now and I was thinking the same thing. Except for the accent, DeVito's a dead ringer.

Devito would have been good. I was thinking Toby Jones. I like Burt Reynolds, but not as Boss Hogg. Holy crap that was terrible casting. And the guy playing roscoe was trying to be mean and intimidating, not bumbling and funny like the real Roscoe.

reply

I think the biggest problem with this movie besides the script was poor casting.

reply

This movie was terrible. All of the characters in it were written nothing like the ones in the show and the script should have been burned when they got through reading the first page of it.

The reason they got Burt Reynolds to play Boss Hogg is because he is the Bandit.

Has nothing to do with being a short, fat a$$hole.

This movie was made by people that loved the Dukes of Hazzard show and Smokey and the Bandit and, I'm guessing, The Blues Brothers.

Movies with main characters involved in high speed car chases.

THAT's why they cast Burt Reynolds to play Boss Hogg. It's pretty obvious to figure out by yourself. I didn't google anything about this movie to come up with my response.
