I noticed it was up on IMDB MovieMeter, can anyone tell us anything?

I just finished the book and Ewan MacGregor, regardless of the quality of his reasonably generic American accent, is not remotely who I'd cast as the proud son of Newark, New Jersey. For the record, casting Robert Downey, Jr. as Sherlock Holmes--twice!--was just as ridiculous.
shareFor the sake of my own enjoyment of a movie I generally try to go in with an open mind regardless of who I thought the cast should be. I know for me going in already thinking someone is wrong for the part and focusing on how who they are in real life doesn't jive with the part just sets me up for not enjoying the movie as much as I could have. These are actors, who they are in real life shouldn't matter, he whole point is that they are portraying someone at they are not.
Plus sometimes actors can suprise you, maybe Ewan will give a top notch performance. But I guess with books turned movies it will be impossible to meet everyone's standards since we all imagine e characters differently, even if they got the most all American actor they could find he wouldn't fit everyone's vision.
Actually by the book's description Paul Bettany fit the Swede perfectly. It wasn't just the physical characteristics that fit but the Swede was the god like Golden Boy of the community. As much as I like Ewen, Bettany has the type of charisma on screen you'd want.

It's usually Britons that get their panties in a bunch when Americans play them on the rare occasion.
The whiners stay curiously quiet when you have so many Brits and Aussies playing Americans in Hollywood productions.

How would you like it if struggling British actors were displaced by American invaders in their own film industry???
