Question about the book/author

I want to read the book...I'm not familiar with the author. Do I need to read any of his other books before I read this book? Is this book part of a series from the author?

If I pull that off, will you die?
It would be extremely painful.
You're a big guy.
For you.

No, you don't need to have read anything other by Roth in order to appreciate 'American Pastoral'.

But if you do like it, you'll most definitely also like 'The Human Stain' and 'I Married a Communist'.

Those three books form a loose trilogy and share a similar tone, and they all delve deep into American history and American trauma (and they also share the same first person narrator, Roth's alter ego Nathan Zuckerman - but Zuckerman is the narrator in many of Roth's books).

I highly recommend all three books. Personally, I liked 'American Pastoral' the best, closely followed by 'The Human Stain', but 'I Married a Communist' is also excellent.
