I haven't read the book but I am aware that it is consistently on lists of the greatest literature of the 20th century. Looking at the trailer it looked like an action-driven thriller whereas I imagined the book would be a slow-paced, reflective drama that spans many years. Can anyone whose read the book and seen the movie tell me, without spoilers, whether this is a faithful adaptation?
shareThe trailer indeed is trying very hard to appeal to the thriller crowd because "drama" doesn't sell to the millenials.
Unfortunately it's not just the trailer. The movie also bends backward to make the whole thing look like a mystery story instead of what it really is and it's neither a faithful, nor a very good adaptation of the book, and doesn't really work as a movie in its own rights.
