What was Rita's deal?

Merry said she didn't send her to the Swede. What was her story? Movie doesn't really go into that.

I read the book. It's not conclusive. It does imply that Rita and merry somewhere along the line knew each other. Roth doesn't explictely say if Rita met with the swede because merry told her to and merry got the money or if Rita just knew things about merry and went by herself to get money from the swede.

I guess it adds mystery but that's one of the points in the movie that seemed off and it's interesting that it was actually the novels fault. Although it acted as an effective red herring.

It's actually really interesting bc I've been reading lots of reviews and everyone keeps saying that the directing was bad because it was inconclusive and didn't feel like it was finished. But that's exactly how the book ends. You finish the last page frustrated without answers but that's the same way that the swede felt for the rest of his life

Whatever her deal was, she needed her ass kicked in that hotel room.

She just wanted to seduce the rich, corrupt older man.
Had daddy issues & problems with authority.

I haven't read the book, just seen the movie.
I liked the part when she said:

'I can't take it.'

It was her only human moment.
In the rest of the movie, I hated her.

With a vengeance.

And I'm a pretty liberal guy.

Yeah that's what I thought too. They knew each other, and she had a similar disorder to Merry and wanted to live out her own trauma with her father instead.

The way she acted was exactly the reason why we had a patriarchal society for so long haha.

Of course Rita is just another lost soul.
