the Drug/Trip Scene - seriously?

The Rum Diary is one of my all time favorite novels so I won't even begin to rant about all the ways this adaptation was an uninspired failure. I'll only complain about what I found to be the most blatant misstep - the trip scene. Not only was this scene completely removed from anything resembling the tone or message of the novel, but it felt out of place in the movie too. There is no possible explanation for that scene other than shameless pandering to fans of Fear & Loathing so they would have something to stick in the trailer that would look a little like that movie.

The attempt to "recapture" anything about Fear & Loathing in this adaptation was misguided and innappropriate and probably explains most of the failings of this movie from the script up to the final product.

Things are more moderner than before... San Dimas High School football rules!

This is my comment on the drug scene. No this was not in the novel this film was an adaptation of the novel, this scene was showing how Thompson found his voice. Granted this happened later in Thompsons life but they decided to show it in this film. I thought it was very well done and one of my favorite scenes. Sorry you didn't appreciate it.

It is not so much the destination as the journey!!!

for the gilliam electric eel tongue which
was admittedly fear and loathing but what

was a nice scene in a slacklustre flick &
