Underrated
This movie, I feel, is overlooked and a fun time. It's not an accurate adaptation, but is still a good flick with a great soundtrack.

This movie, I feel, is overlooked and a fun time.Agreed. I don't think I'd want to watch it over and over... But it's appropriately absurd. Catches HST in spirit I think
but I've read the novel a zillion times. I prefer it to a lot of Thompson's (theoretically)non-fiction.
I like his books of letters, too. If you like the novel you should take a look at the collected letters - it's 2 volumes and they may seem huge and intimidating not a quick read like The Rum Diary - but you can browse through and find some wonderful riffs.

It’s a really good movie, but I can understand why some may be disappointed if they were expecting it to be like Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas. This movie only has a few psychedelic scenes and is a little more subtle in that regard, but the acting is great and there are some really good dialogue heavy scenes.
