Could somebody explain why they liked this?

I have written an in depth review of this, explaining why exactly I hated this film (rated 2/10).
However I still think I need further closure on this film, because I am totally confused over the high rating. I want somebody who genuinely loved, or even just loved this film to explain their perspective to me. I promise that I will be mature, and I hope I can learn something from this. Thanks.

I thought it was an exaggerated representation of our society. I do think it was overblown but simplistic films about the same subject gets ignored. But honestly, wipe away all the gloss and it's a great representation of America.

I love !

Just as a FILM its horrible in every way. The racism is so forced, telling a story is forgotten. This is definitely one of the worst films i saw in the 2000s and in my lifetime. It deserves a 3.0 overall on this site.

Ignoring the common cult-ural box-up of pseudo reality we agree on in the consensus trance, the script points right at the irresolvable ambiguities and conflicts out of which life is actually made. The average cuppa joe drinker wants it all boxed and bowed. It's not the way life works. The mid-century French and Italian cinemas got it. Hollywood is (mostly) still brainwashing us with the dualistic, all good or all bad, all right or all wrong stipulations we learned in school. Did the dialectic ever get here on the boat? Only on occasion. This is an example.

I like the idea of different stories that interweave. This film had a superb score (and is one of themes memorable part son this film for me). Also certain scenes were very powerful and emotional - saying that there are many scenes for me that are forgettable.

It is not a perfect film, but for me it is a good watch and those few memorable scenes an score man hit worth a viewing.

I guess we all just like different things, no problem with that :)

I Sympathise with Lars Von Trier.

If you gave this film a 2 then you are never going to understand anyone's explanation of why this is or any other great film is great.

'Well I've got two words for you - STFU'

I liked the fact that everybody mistook the ethnicity of other people. I liked the performances, especially by Dillon and Cheedle. I was so thrilled when it won the oscar. I was afraid that Brokeback Mountain would get it because they like gay themes. It definately was not as good a movie.

I did not see your review but take the fact you hate it. But here I read some replies that I do agree entirely with. "no one is only one thing" this alone did it for me. I don't need to like a movie to find it interesting, that is such a movie is not the most pleasant way to pass time. But if a movie makes you learn something valuable it's not a waste of time in my way to look at it.
However as I read replies to you here and your reaction to them. I had a kind of feeling you were more or at least interested of someone to agree with you, if so, why do you? I know one does not like to be alone in something like this and may start to worry about it if one is, as it could mean one did not get it right, so reassurance may be needed.
But I feel you're quite entitle to your views and your feelings although I am with the school of thoughts that it can be helpful to find out the "why" and "how"
I saw the film on TV last night and was quite taken by how intelligent and honest it was and thought it was fun too with all the twists and turns.
And really, that point again. People aren't all bad or all good and difference in looks, accents, cultures adds difficulties for people to live harmoniously. These are just facts of life and it's nice for someone to put it in such an interesting way in a movie form to remind us.
