Ppl who think this is "great" are intellectualy inferior to me.

I'm sorry, but that's how I feel. I think 'Crash' is at best, good. I don't understand how anyone who isn't a casual fan of film and filmmaking could think it is "great". I mean, seriously...it is so incredibly contrived, and there are way too many stupid coincidences. It's like it was written by a talented 9th grader. I don't think it is outright bad, but it is definitely mediocre.

Oh, you're not pink???...The poster wasn't calling any race pink because, well, no race is called pink...Duh?

Rodents of Unusual Size?...I don't think they exist.

You're also an idiot.

My extremely liberal Creative Writing teacher loved it, he seemed to talk about it all the time. I miss that period in spring 05 when this was just a little movie, then it had to win BP and ruin everything. I like the message of the movie but could never go that far, it's made me downgrade the film a little bit because it almost feels pretentious to cite it now.

Your likes and dislikes have nothing to do with your intellectual capacity.

This is true

I laughed out loud, literally, when I read the subject heading of your post.

I know you're being sarcastic but it is still ironic to read that on this board, considering Crash is predominantly about judgement of others.

It doesn't take an intelligent person to realize this movie is full of coincidences, but knowing that, I still love this movie, I enjoy it, there are so many facets of movie making that can make a movie a "great" experience to watch, this one succeeds in so many things (other than the questionable writing at times) I like the acting, cinematography, music, editing, and the ways that it does effectively illicit emotion are all great. It has it's flaws, but to say that the screenplay has too many coincidences therefore it can't be seen as a "great" movie by intelligent people is...unintelligent. We all love movies for MANY different reasons, therefore your opinion isn't law, sorry.

But what's this got to do with the CIO?

reply

Yeah the movie was so contrived it was painful to sit through. It was a mediocre movie, but it just bugs me (and a lot of others) that it was nominated, let alone won, an Oscar in a year where every other movie that was nominated was far superior.

On a technical (acting, photography, etc) level it was good. But the script was aimed at morons. Yes I know it was trying to say racism is bad but come on... I don't need to be reminded of that every freakin' second. Some subtlety would have made the movie way more realistic and bearable.

As it is I spent the whole 2 hours randomly yelling at the scream:"IT GET IT! RACISM IS BAD! QUIT SPELLING IT OUT FOR ME!" (I had to watch this movie on a dare).

Maybe it was saying Multiculturalism is bad. There are probably a lot of things you could have gotten out of that movie if you looked hard.

I choose to believe what I was programmed to believe

reply

Well given that it's a Hollywood movie I highly doubt that.

I hadn’t seen this film before yesterday. It is indeed every single scene in which someone is racist. It loses its effect, it would have been harder hitting having occasional events.

It’s not too bad a movie but it’s such Oscars fodder – it’s melodramatic, the music is OTT, it has a ‘message’, etc.

From my perspective, the movie is saying, "if you want happiness, don't live in L.A."

Some of the writing was shockingly bad as well. Plus how is Sandra Bullock tripping over on a stair in any way good enough to be climactic?
