Going against popular demand, my thoughts on 'Joey'
These are just opinions and how I thought the show was based on the 2 short seasons it had.
I think that the show started off real weak, the first dozen or so episodes were really lackluster and didn't give the term "comedy" any justice whatsoever.
However I feel that the show began to pick-up at this stage, mainly because we started to get used to the characters and the roles that they play and it started the move up from here, especially in comedy. (sadly it seems as though the viewership declined here, not sure why they were expecting friends like ratings)
I think from late season 1 to about 2/3 of season 2 this show was at its peak and the humour was great and jokes were apt. This was mainly due to 2 characters in my opinion and those were Zach his friend and Jimmy, Michaels father.(I hate how he was used in friend prior but he really fit the role well) These 2 added so much humour and it is surprising that the show ended after only 2 seasons.
There are probably plenty of reasons why this show didn't succeed but these are the 2 big ones I felt. First is that the character Joey was too one dimensional and it was hard making him the center of the show since he rarely saw all sides of a situation, this is why I had mentioned in another post that I think Ross was the main reason Friends was so successful in that regard. Secondly I think that the love interest Alex just didn't work, I can't pinpoint exactly why not but the chemistry, her character, just in general everything about her and Joey together didn't mesh for me.
With the my pro's and con's out there, I still would have really liked for this show to have gone another season or maybe 2, so that we can really judge it better. Did they overpay the actors because they anticipated Friend like ratings? if so then I see why they cut there ties so quickly, otherwise it's a real shame it ended so quickly.
Just my thoughts :)
