Who should've gotten a spin-off

Ross and Rachel
Chandler and Monica
or
Mike and Phoebe

Personally I think a show around Ross is what would be successful. I feel as though he was the glue for the show Friends, he was the Eric from that 70's show, the Jerry from Seinfeld, he was the guy that wasn't ever pigeon holed into any 1 role or position.

Or maybe I'm just a Ross fan and have my goggles on too tightly :P

i think that a chandler/monica spin-off would have been well received and successful. But i still think NBC should have given joey at least one more season.

reply

Don't think any spin off would have worked. They worked as a group, as individuals... not so much. Not saying they aren't funny, but the true comedy behind friends was the chemistry around all of them.

Taking away any of them destroys that chemistry, and that's probably what made Joey hard to swallow. Watching it I could only think about how much I miss the others and just went back to watching friends.

agree completely

Ive always said that Ross and Monica's parents should have had a spin off they were so funny.

reply

No spin off would work. Watching "Joey" I kept waiting for the rest of the cast to show up, as did many people.

What made "Friends" work so well was all of them together.

I agree. I am watching season one of Joey now, and It does feel like its missing something (the rest of the cast from Friends) I like the character Joey, its just that it doesn't do well without everyone else from Friends, especially Chandler. Now if he and Monica didn't get married, I think a Joey and Chandler spin off would of been aces..

Season 1 was pretty bad I have to admit but it gets better towards the end and Season 2 is where it really starts to hit it's stride, you need ignore though that the father was a character on friends to really enjoy the show. Either way though it was too late they had already cancelled it, its a shame I think 1 more season would have given it a bit more steam and shown it for getting better.

Chandler and Monica would/should have worked. You could have had them in there new house, raising the kids, and would have been nice to have that show up of the old Friends actors.

reply

I woudln't wnat to see Chandler as a family man, in all honesty and I rarely watch things with children. I think there are so many "married couple with kids" shows..

A Chandler and Joey or Chandler alone spin-off might have worked. Chandler was one of the most developed characters and the funniest. Boy what a comedian that Matt Perry was.
BUT
-The actors were probably too old.
-Chandler married to Monica wouldn't have worked. Unless Chandler and Joey started their own firm, or something, and the show was about that, with Monica as a minor character.

none tbh.

It just isn't the same. I personally didn't like the setting or characters in 'Joey'. Didn't have the same feeling at all.

and a COKE.... I'm sorted

From a marketing stand-point, a Joey spin-off made the most sense, he was by far the most popular character on the show. tbh i actually quite enjoyed Joey as it's own show, although with almost no references to the old "friends", it didnt quite have a genuine spin-off vibe.

If the network had made a Monica and Chandler spin-off, and that failed, everyone would be screaming "they should have made a Joey spin-off. Right idea, poor execution IMO.

I always thought a Gunther spin off would actually work, lol. There had to have been more to him than what we saw on Friends.

Actually they wanted Rachel with Joey, but Jennifer wanted to do movies and not another sitcom. I wonder if she made the right choice. Chandler was my fav character on Friends before he got together with Monica, couldnt stand him after

Can anyone verify this? I searched and found nothing.

In theory ross would definitely fit the best for a spinoff, and they could have made it work easily without having rachel if jennifer didn't want to be apart of it, besides like a cameo or two.

reply

NONE! Friends is over, and get over it.

reply

Never!! I will never get over it!!

I think the Mike/Phoebe show would have worked. Geared in a romcom direction. I think it would play a lot like Dharma and Greg.
