I loved Friends, but never have seen Joey, so I'm curious according to the spin-off what happened to the other five after the end of Friends?

As much as you and I may have wanted "Joey" to be "Friends" continued, the producers of the show AND Matt wanted the show to stand on its own. Fans wanted a cameo appearance by Chandler but the producers said they would only do that if the show was failing and needed a ratings boost. However, that would have been deemed a desparate play for the show and not a "gift" for "Friends" fans.

I know, this always bothered me. Especially after Joey gets that HUGE movie role. Why wouldn't Chandler come down to see the premire or at least call. After all Chandler did Joey should have kept him up to date

Probably would have saved the show if they had cameo appearances from some of the friends. David Schwimmer even directed a couple of episodes so no reason why he couldn't have appeared.
Fraiser had most of the Cheers cast appear on it which kept the interest of Cheers fans going Joey could have doen the same.

i haven't watched this show in a while. i own season 1 and i know season 2 is out in canada but not here in the states.
But of all the friends, only 2 made mention. chandler in the pilot which was already pointed out. and rachel. he said in one episode that he was once in love with a pregnant girl he roomed with. or something like that.
and joey did make it big. in fear that the show got canned in season 2, the writers made joey an action star to try and boost the show.
the only character who did make an appearance from friends to joey was joey's dad. it was the same actor.
and yes, david swimmer did direct a couple episodes.
oh, and if you look, supposedly there's a photo of chandler in every episode.
It was pathetic that the other friends were barely mentioned.
They didn't even need to neccisarily make guest appears, Joey could have talked to them on the phone, or mentioned them more.
Did they honestly think people who have been watching Friends for 10 years would just forget about them?

Well Matt Leblanc did actually hint that one of the five other Friends would appear in season 3, too bad that never happened, I agree about David though, there's no reason why they couldn't have had Ross appear at least once.

I've read somewhere that David Schwimmer Said that he is'nt interested in reprising his character so that he would have appeared.
