Similar to Clockwork Orange?

Does anyone else think this film is similar to Clockwork Orange?

The storyline seemed almost the same, A man is given a second chance but at the cost of having tests done on him etc...
In Clockwork Orange It is that too...

What do you think?

The overall plotline is similar to A Clockwork Orange, although nothing else was. Yes, he was a violent criminal who undergoes a procedure to rehabilitate him. However, in Control, he takes medication and becomes remorseful and calm. In A Clockwork Orange, it is a visual stimulation treatment, and the lead character does not become remorseful, and although the treatment worked and he is calmer, any acts of violence makes him violently ill, unlike in Control where he is able to fight back attackers. Also, in Control, men are actively looking for him because of his past. In A Clockwork Orange, he simply stumbles across the man who wants him killed.

This was an "ok" film. I agree that it was similar to Clockwork Orange. It's as though Control takes up from Clockwork Orange after Alex gets his treatment. It continues the story showing the potential that Alex could have, if he had any remorse. The ending was trite, it could have done with a bit more thought. A decent film for rent, definitely not to buy.

In Clockwork Orange, Alex is given aversion therapy to prevent his violent behaviour. Its not that he does not want to hurt anyone, it is just that he feels sick if he tries. (And it also stops his appreciation of Beethoven just as a side effect.) Burgess' point seems to me to be that this is worthless - Alex is just a puppet. In Control, the treatment is supposed to make the patient feel remorse for their past behaviour, care about other people, and not want to hurt anybody. It just happens that Lee Ray manages to redeem himself without any chemical help. Similar subject to Les Miserables.

Of course you may not believe that man is capable of redemption. You may think that no-one deserves a second chance.

I pray that you are wrong.

Anyway, I liked the film!

Yea in a clockwork orange Alex is given treatment that makes him feel phsically sick when he has even only violentt feelings, but basically it doesnt change his character,he still would like to punch someone in the face for the fun of it but he knows he cant, not much of a cure really.
in this film it is a bit differnet as the treatment tries to develop a "conscience" in the criminal and tries to show him how to lead a decnet life or something like that, which seems a better way to treat someone

This is simply my opinion, but...Clockwork was a brilliant treatment of behavior modification (using Pavlovian principles, i.e. behavior mod acting at the level of classical conditioning) based on an equally brilliant book. On the other hand, Control is an over-simplistic, cliche-ridden piece of tripe (maybe chum). Yes, the overall theme is roughly the same, but that is it. Despite some heavy actors (Dafoe, Liotta) I couldn't get past how gawdawful BAD this movie was! Bad premise, bad acting, bad script, bad....everything!

Anyone who saw this movie and wants to see a masterpiece treating of the idea of modifying criminal behavior...certainly see "A Clockwork Orange" and thank me later.
