Was 'Control' a 'good' film?

I recently attended a screening of the film at the George Eastman House in Rochester, New York, and I was surprised to see that Tim Hunter (the director) was there. After a brief pre-movie talk and then the screening, there was an interesting question and answer session. A lot of the film buffs there seemed to really like it. I thought it was definitely an entertaining movie, although some of the acting was hammy and some of the plot could have been cut out (although the screening included an extra 5 minutes of the movie that was not included in the video version.

That is really an interesting question. I just saw this today, and I have to say I liked it as well. Was it a "good film"? It depends on what you classify as a good movie - I felt some scenes were cheesy, and some of the acting actually lame (even if it had some real good names like Liotta, Dafoe and Rodriguez) - also, the last 10-15 min were pretty 'uneventful' (in terms of knowing how it was going to end - except for the revelation to Dafoe by his superior) - but apart from all this - it was one of those movies that are easily watched, and just as easily forgotten. It is one of those films that you can rent a day when you want to watch something entertaining and not to over-the-top. It is a good movie, but nothing more...

Yeah what is really weird and I confess this -- I watch a lot of films just because Ray Liotta is in them. He has charisma, a wicked sense of humor, is a great actor, and can play both the good and the bad guy. In some films he even makes the line too fine for us to know whether he is playing a good or bad guy. And especially this film was a tough role to play.

It is a "good: film it just isn't spectacular but if you want a good suspense with solid acting and a couple of good plot twists then check this out. it is definatley worth watching I would give it 7.5 out of 10

I really liked this...What this really is, is a "throwback" 80's type movie..and I really enjoyed these types..This could easily have been a Stallone type movie in the 80's...I like all kinds of different types of movies, from a Godfather 5 star type to the "cheesy" actions, but if you like 80's action you'll enjoy this movie, and I really liked it..8 of 10...
