Epic Fail

Hey all,

I define this movie as an "epic fail." This is different than a movie that just sucks, but rather, this is a movie who had great potential and just imploded.

Potential:
1) Great Concept - Honestly, I thought this movie had a brilliant concept. With the exception of perhaps the Brady Bunch and Adaams Family, all of these old TV shows turned movies have been wretched. Dukes of Hazzard, Beverley Hillbillies and Miami Vice come readily to mind, but I am sure there are just many many others. However, this was fresh, it wasn't "let's just remake this to earn a few bucks from a small fanbase" but it was "let's actually put some creativity into the plot that also allows us to deviate from the source material" I always appreciate some imagination.

2) Spot-on casting - Yes, I am a Will Ferrell fan, and if he had dialed his performance in (say, something more along the lines of his performance in Melinda and Melinda) it would have worked. Also, Nicole Kidman almost looks like a clone of Elizabeth Montgomery. Shirley McClaine and Michael Caine are both distinguished. Schwarzmann added some cool indie cred.

But, despite this, the movie FAILED. It was horrible on every level. The concept didn't come out, the characters had no chemisty (as bad as Ferrell/Kidman was, I thought the chemistry between Caine/Kidman was even worse). The script was all over the place and the special effects were corny. Maybe the worst thing I have ever seen Nicole Kidman in.

I was curious if you guys had any other great epic fail experiences.

Gosh, I didn't think it was that bad.

I thought it was worse.

This movie was a great disappointment to me; perhaps I expected too much, or perhaps I was in love with the TV Series and its characters; the magic of those characters just never appeared here, such a good opportunity to relive the lovable and bright magic of the Bewitched; definitely, it is one of the worst remakes I have ever seen.

Anybody who uses such a phrase has already failed at the tasks of comprehension and legitimate criticism.

It's no wonder you didn't understand this self-reflexive, genuinely creative movie.

Also, I hate Will Ferrall, and even he couldn't ruin this movie.

Now go play in traffic, and if you can come back and clean off, there's milk and cookies waiting for you.

Mmyesssh... I agree with you ol' chap! This "movie" as the kids call it these days was a marvelous display. Mmyesssh indeed. Obviously these little scamps have no eye for the brilliance of this "moving picture" as it were. Anyone who doesn't agree with us two fine chaps should be dismissed as a common peasant, a nuisance to enlightened society! *Brushes the pipe ash from his tweed jacket*

TL;DR: Listen to me. I'm a professor.

2/3rds of the film-going herd these days do indeed need to self-slaughter themselves post-haste.

Wrapping themselves in the nitrate stock of movies they'll never see, because they are in black-and-white, or "too slow," or "boring," might be a keen idea. All they need then is a match and a place to strike it.

I'm on a hunger strike until this work by Nora Ephron is recognized by National Film Registry as an American Tresure, or until the Sorbonne teaches a special course on it's meta-cinematic genius.

Then again, that stromboli is looking mighty tasty. I think I'll have that as a reward for my latest essay on the existentialist masterpiece that is 'Digby, the Biggest Dog in the World'.

Now, back to the hunger strike. . .

Saying 'Epic Fail is legitimate criticism in this case of 'Bewitched', it is really poor across the board, so bad that it's beyond just sucky, it's epically bad, An Epic Fail is what this movie is.

Its always amusing when people get riled up when a boring movie gets called out for what it is but its fans try their hardest to defend it by attacking everyone that does not agree with them. Ive seen plenty of old, black and white movies as well as slow paced ones (my rating history is public, go fishing). I liked some, didnt like some, hated others. However something has always been true - every time i didnt like a movie i was called a dumb kid and was told to "Go watch transformers" (i did actually, didnt like them either).

"let's actually put some creativity into the plot"

There is NO creativity in this movie, not in the plot, not anywhere.
