Totally Dropped The Ball

They originally had two actors that facially favored Elizabeth Montgomery and Dick York in Nicole Kidman and Jim Carrey. Carrey turned the movie down because of Nora Ephron not wanting to do a traditional Bewitched movie plot like the fans would have wanted.

They instead got Will Ferrell to play Darrin and had a script that totally changed the dynamics of the plot for the worst. They could have had a good movie to watch also because of inspired casting like Shirley MacLaine as Endora, Michael Caine as Maurice,Steve Carell as Uncle Arthur and an actress that looked very much like Aunt Clara.

When it comes on I don't have a compulsion to look at it. Ted Bessell (from "That Girl")was going to do the movie a few years earlier but died. Penny Marshall was involved also but she cancelled the project. Nora Ephron messed up the whole thing with the script they did. They could have had Carrey and Kidman in a traditional movie that followed the characters and situations the right way.

Agree but Nora Ephron and Kidman's little kitten breathy voice MESSED it up.

There were so many things to relate to in Bewitched. The overbearing mother in law (Mrs. Stephens and her sick headaches!), the nosy neighbors, the kids and the crazy gay Uncle. And that house - loved it! Elizabeth Montgomery was so perfect. When they remade Bewitched for the big screen the only actress with charm who could have played her was another Elizabeth, or Elisabeth as in Shue. Shue and Jim Carrey as Sam and Darren would have been a hell of a lot better than Nicole Kidman and Will Farrell.
