Ah, anyone notice the 'Tom Cruise' character?

I can't believe no one is talking about the "Ritchie" character bascially playing out the real Tom Cruise. Anyone else notice this obvious plot device?

Seriously, either no one cares or no one noticed.

I didn't notice but still think that Tom Cruise is a sexy little thing, and hope he isn't scared of this, but I am a man too. Hehehe. I love Bewitched! Dazza xo :)

reply

Bewitched was a much better film than I thought it would be. It was very funny. But what added to the fun was the "Tom Cruise-type" character who acted like Tom Cruise with his exagerated mannerisms. I'm a big fan of Tom Cruise as well but, Tom Cruise had to divorce Nicole Kidman because she refused to move forward with Scientology and the Church insisted that she was holding him back. The Church insisted he divorce her.

Don't forget Steve Carell's "Uncle Arthur" claiming that he was "not even human."

Ritchie looked absolutely nothing like Tom Cruise, and besides he is a manager, not a star so I don't see how anyone could think it was based on him. Furthermore, I'm quite sure Nicole Kidman would not stand for Tom Cruise to be ribbed in one of her films, after all he is the father of her children.

Neither Nicole Kidman nor Tom Cruise are the biological parents of Isabella or Connor.

This is true but does that somehow take away from his being their father? They might be adopted but that doesn't make them less his children.

That is true, but the lack of a biological link does sometimes lessen the link between the adopted parents to some extent, if they are divorced. There can be less of the "for the sake of OUR children!" factor. Not always, but sometimes.

I just watched this today, and I kept thinking how much the guy looked like Tom Cruise. I figured it was just an inside joke...

reply

yah he does look like tom cruise, however thats how he always looks. any other movie hes in he looks the same to me. its hard to tell if its an inside joke or not. sort of a mystery i guess

reply

I wonder if Nicole was even in on the joke. He does look like TC with bad hair though.

reply

I finally saw this movie and was immediately struck by the resemblance. In fact, I logged on to make that comment. I thought it was a great touch!

reply

its like his friggin´ twin.. nice touch

You guys are talking about Jason Schwartzman. They did not cast him because he looked like Tom Cruise and I never thought he looked like Tom Cruise in this movie. But there is a scene in Rushmore where I thought he looked like Tom...which is ironic. But ya you guys need to get with it.

reply

Totally -- was the first thing I thought when I saw him.

First scene I said, hey this guy thinks he's Tom Cruise.

By the third scene I was convinced that this was a Jerry Mcguire spoof and wondered what Kidmans thoughts were on the parody.

I can't believe there are some people on this forum who don't see it. It's so obvious.

BTW, this movie stunk, I just came on here for the Tom Cruise connection.

He looks so incredibly similar to T.C. that I actually started laughing when I saw him. They even got someone short like Tom.

this guy was the only funny thing about the whole movie.

reply

guys he LOOKS like tom cruise in a lot of his movies, however i dont think he was acting like him at all.. thats just jason schwartzmen playin a diff charactor ironically looking like our beloved tommy c. haha

reply

Ahaha I watched this movie with my sister and I didn't pick up on it, but she did. She was like "I didn't like that Ritchie guy, he reminded me of Tom Cruise!" haha

reply

He had to be based on Tom Cruise. I thought that 5 mins into the film.

reply

I believe it was loosely based on his Jerry Mcguire character. Remember, he did play an agent in that film. At first I wondered if this WAS Tom, but decided he didnt sound quite like him.

reply

That is Jason Schwartzman and he always looks like that!!!

There is no joke, there is no intention to make fun of Cruise or Kidman. It's just the way he looks.
