The film lacked little to no wit or humor, both of which were elements of the original TV show and were meant to be a part of this film. Will Ferrell drags the film down the gutter with his horrendous comedic acting non talent. Lines like, "Isabel Bigelow: Guess what? I'm a witch! Jack Wyatt: Guess what? I'm a Clippers fan!" dragged the film down even further as being unfunny, unwitty, and delivered without the attempt to be either funny or witty.
Now, I admit that I am bias against Ferrell who, in my opinion, is amongst the worst professional actors of the 21St century. Films like Elf, Blades of glory, and Land of the lost were epic failures, in my opinion, based on poor written material and Will Ferrell being in them. I know he has fans and I know there are those who will say those films were good and perhaps they are to people who appreciate dumbed down, loud, and pointless humor done by an offish buffoon. Personally, I don't mind stupid humor if it can be done with some wit. He lacks that.
The only thing that sold me on seeing this film was Nicole Kidman who, in my opinion, is one of the best actresses of the 20Th/21St centuries. While she has been in several badly written parts and poorly preformed films, she still manages to pull it off doing the best with what she has.
This film could have been redeemable if Will Ferrell's part had been done by a comic with wit and much of the lines in it were replaced with something actually funny or, at the very least, witty.
