Underrated wtf.

Being a big BoB fan, I love the first one and watched it no exaggeration 10+ times, I thought I would rewatch this after some years. This is now my 3rd run through and it's a damn good series. Unreal some of the comments in here saying it SUCKED. Sure some episodes were slowish, the John Basolone romantic one springs to mind, but the ending to his story was devastating, Hank milked it a tad, but the guy was a genuine hero and proved that even heroes are mortal, which is a lesson in life.

Great powerful series, the reality of war in so vivid in the combat scenes and some of the emotional scenes, can't believe some of the borderline retarded threads and comments about how it "sucks".. unbelievable really.

I think it's the comparison with BoB that killed the show for many viewers. With the absence of a central heroic figure similar to Winters, it's more challenging. It's also trying to cover more ground by showing the marines' lives outside of the combat zone. And, honestly, the first 3 or 4 parts takes their time to get going. I think the series should have bee longer to flesh out characters more.

And I definitely agree it's underrated. Even with some storytelling weaknesses, it's a still a top notch production with a great attention to detail and brutal action scenes.

I agree. The tone is different from BoB, and I suspect that it challenged some viewers who want their wars neat and heroic.

I think that his death wouldn't have had the impact it did had they not developed that personal story to get you invested in him.

I just learned how to use the "Spoiler" button...
