The characters of John and Teyla just clicked.

Bravo to the writers of the characters and the actors that portrayed them. I usually detest romances on television, as they feel forced or are uninteresting, but the budding connection between a soldier from Earth and a woman of the Pegasus Galaxy came off as much more believable/natural.

It's a shame that real life events dictated that John couldn't be the father of Teyla's child.

Yep..they had chemistry..not shallow chemistry either.
It would have been cool if John fathered her baby..but as you said real life happens..

What real life events?

The actress who played Teyla got pregnant in real life..and as John and her weren't together in the show..the baby's father ended up being another Athosian.

reply

Thanks DreamerWill. Since Teyla and John seemed to have pretty good chemistry, I'm surprised the writers didn't have Teyla say something to John like "remember that night after the party..." hint hint and just start up a relationship there. I suppose that would have complicated things too much.

Some folk may not want to hear this -- or care lol -- but John & Teyla are together in the Legacy series books.

Without spoiling too much, please let me know just how that ended up happening.

They were real friends and Team mates. For once a female lead didn't end up there, in the series, to get the male lead laid.

reply

To me, what they had going on was a blossoming romantic relationship I wouldn't have minded watching .

Ever watch The X-Files?

It was one of the biggest turn offs for many fans, to 'ship' Mulder and Scully. God what a fail. Half or more than half the fanbase was in agony just watching it. In the end, they divorce I believe... which made sense. Sigh. They wanted a baby because Gillian Anderson was pregnant I think... eh.

I thought Teyla was too mature for John. ;)

IMO, John doesn't work with anyone... he flirts around buut, the women are too headstrong or something for him, he's too mellow. Though the actor was married at the time so... he didn't carry himself as so readily available, hah. I don't really like fandom ships anyway. Kills the story. And yes, the women are always the bedding partners as it is. Really annoying sometimes.

It is good that a show can show a completely understandable pairing of a NICE couple who have total trust and respect [not gold chained gang boss respect] for each other. That nearly but not quite overstepping. It surely must be possible to have something which is near to but not quite a possessive love. O Neill and Carter showed that and even in another dimension were married. McKay who may have had wished for more than one liaison was shown to have this underlying passion for Carter which we see as saving his life. In Atlantis as well we have the Teyla/ John potential and with the portrayal of John as a lover [did we ever see him in action] how did he keep his hands off Teyla. I would not have been that professional??? But John was and did not overstep. He would also if need be sacrifice himself or a n other if required. No matter the pain. But do remember the confusion caused by Claudia/Vala Mal Doren when suggesting that Mitchell had had a moment of pleasure yet it is Jackson that we know she had feelings for which in another time reality was successful. Just think she must have become sterile for what was it 50 years of from her serious bonking.

I also like the pairing of John and Teyla and the amazing thing is, that in the Legacy series both are shown to have mutual feelings for each other, I don´t know if they actually become a couple, but it´s stil a book to come. I also like Sam and Jack and in those books they are also an established couple and that is not just fanfiction, but approved by MGM. Sam and Jack are at least indicated to be together after season 8 (deleted scene, producer comments) and would Atlantis have run longer, same would sure apply for John and Teyla.

reply

Yeah it was one of those catch 22 situations of being liked by someone but kind of kept in the friend zone because there was someone else in the picture.

They were ok, they played well off each other, but I don't know about romance kind of chemistry-the few fantasy scenes felt flat.
Anyway, wouldn't mind them hooking up as long as the show wouldn't make drama of lost/ kidnappped Teyla and John frantically looking for her through the whole galaxy or any *beep* like that(which they totally would).
However, after Teyla had a baby I am totally against.
