O'Niell's Ancient Power Boost Generator

In the SG-1 episode... "The Fifth Race"... We see O'Neill use the use the Ancient knowledge to build a power generator to give the Stargate extra power, so it could dial the Asgard galaxy of Ida, in order for O'Neill to get help.

In the SG-1 episode... "Point Of View"... Major Carter mentions, it's seem the device was designed to only work once, and she can't get it to work again. But with the help from Dr. Carter from the Alternate reality, they are able to get it to work again, AND Dr. Carter is able to contact the Asgard in her reality, when she travels galaxy of Ida.

If Major Carter had the knowledge to get the device to work again, and it would give the Stargate enough power to dial other (nearby) galaxies...

Then why couldn't they use the Ancient Power Boost Generator to dial Atlantis in the Pegasus Galaxy? ...Or... Give it to the Atlantis Expedition Team in the Pilot Episode to be able to return home?

As we saw with the Midway Space Station, it wasn't like the Pegasus Galaxy was on the other side of the universe... It should have worked.


And yes, I know, it is possible, the Ancient Power Boost Generator was left in the Alternate Reality... But this seems rather stupid and unlikely, since.. OH, I DON'T KNOW... it was a valuable piece of technology, that they just might want to keep... afterall... THAT WAS THE MISSION OF THE SGC!
