Initially viewing (mostly for lovers of the film)

Upon seeing this in the theater upon its initial release, I remember reeling out of the cinema like I'd been punched in the gut. The fate of the characters really affected me. In the hundreds of movies I've seen in the theater, I've never had such a strong, gut-level reaction to a movie. Just curious about how others felt after their first viewing.

I saw it on DVD but I had the very same reaction. My father saw it on the big screen and he told me about the movie and said it left him feeling the way you describe. I got it on DVD because of my father's recommendation and found it very chilling and creepy and sad. Not only that, but famed film critic Roger Ebert wrote a review and said something very similar to what you said about walking out of the theater, feeling punched in the gut. I'm not sure why, but there's something too real and gritty about the way they died. I felt weird and creeped out for days after seeing it.

my first time view was while floating in Lake Travis in Austin, TX. The Alamo Drafthouse showed the premiere on a giant, inflatable screen and gave all the patrons inner tubes. And it was freezing cold! But obviously my experience seeing the film was super memorable, and for me, it will always be one of the best "sharkporn" horror movies because of this.
