Did Batman really need a suit of armour?

He rarely gets shot or stabbed and always seems to evade gunfire. He could've easily had a cloth suit with a leather cowl, if needed protection he would have armour around his chest and shoulders like a real life Kevlar vest.

reply

Watch the dark knight, yes he needs an armored suit

reply

Downside is it slows him down.

reply

Upside though it kept him from dying.

reply

Usually have armour around your chest and shoulders just so he can run faster.

reply

He was shot in the stomach.

reply

But not in the legs, He only needs armour around his torso.

reply

Right by your plan he would have died in The Dark Knight.

reply

TDK suit was over designed in places, those little armour could easily pop off.

Kevlar vest would protect his stomach.

Full body armour would carry too much weight, would need to move a lot faster.

reply

"Usually have armour around your chest and shoulders just so he can run faster."

That would leave his stomach exposed which is right where Two-Face shot him.

reply

Kevlar vests cover you stomach.

reply

But you didn't mention covering his stomach.

reply

Chest is not just the pectorals. Kevlar vests cover you entire torso.

reply

So then you do concede that he should have covered his stomach?

reply

TDK armour had too many gaps between plates, when bending side to side the gap between plates go wider, as Lucius Fox mentioned he'll be more vulnerable to gunfire and knifes.

reply

Right but some of the plates were across his stomach so then you concede that he should have some kind of protection over his stomach that could potentially block a bullet?

reply

If your looking for armour you have better options than TDK. Arkham Knight would be ideal https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DOwdzlwXUAAO93I.jpg

reply

TDK suit did leave too many gaps between plates.

The Body suit was a mesh weave that could catch a bullet but bruise you in the process.

Arkham Knight and The Batman suits only have armour around his chest and shoulders.

reply

It didn't stop his back from getting broke or getting beat up in TDKR. It was unrealistic that he survived those falls in the dark knight anyway, even if a suit can stop a bullet it does not stop injuries one would get from a fall.

reply

He took far many falls in Batman Begins than The Dark Knight. The only fall he really took in The Dark Knight was when he dove out a window to save Rachel.

reply

That was pretty unbelievable, but also when he tackles Dent.

reply

True, but with movies about an ultimate badass hero you have to suspend your disbelief a little bit. Kind of like there are so many moments where Rambo should have died also.

reply

But Rambo didn't wear a big rubber suit and call it realism.

reply

The Nolan movies were never supposed to be 100% realistic, they were supposed to take in the real world, that is a universe that is pretty similar to ours. The Burton/Schumacher films very much did not take place in our universe.

reply

RARELY?

Well, it only takes one bullet or one blade to end the BATMAN.

reply

Bond always avoids being shot or stabbed.

Usually have body armour around your chest like real life armour other all over armour would slow you down.
