Yes it clearly is by a mile it's not even up for debate, it is played to perfection and I remember this scene scaring the *beep* out of me when I was younger not because it is scary but because it is so tense also the scene in bvs has Bruce's dad do the punched bg so in hindsight it's his own fault
Thomas Wayne appears to have gotten himself shot for being so scared that he couldn't even hand over his wallet properly. His last words appear to have had no influence on Bruce.
The BvS version is pretty much identical to 'The Dark Knight Returns'

I understand "it's only tv" but the Gotham version of these events was hands down the worst ever produced.
Yeah, I don't recall Tom Wayne trying to talk the scumbag down in any of depiction of this. That had to be all Nolan. Maybe he was just trying to flesh out the character a little more.
It may be less accurate but I still think it's definately the best and my personal favorite adaptation of Bruce's parents murder.

It was staged that way to support Ra's contention that the Waynes's deaths were due to Thomas Wayne's 'failure to act'. The Dark Knight Returns version that Snyder uses shows Thomas Wayne stepping forward to defend his family, inspiring his son in the manner of his death. His actions in the 'Begins' version suggest cowardice, which actually undermines his last words to Bruce, now that I think about it.

Most muggers are not prowling alleys looking for people to kill and then rob. They just want quick cash and an easy exit to get out of there as fast as possible.
I don't think that Thomas Wayne was being a coward in this situation. He was handing over his wallet and acting calm to try and diffuse the situation. Trying to fight the guy would be putting his family at extreme risk for the chance to save himself some money, and money is the last thing he really needs. He also jumped in front of the gun when the guy started pointing it at his wife.
Do people here on this board really think they have the lighting reflexes to grab a loaded gun out of someone's hand who is pointing it at them?
The BvS scene is far more visually compelling, telling the story with no dialogue except "Martha", yet still capturing both the horror and the randomness of the event. Add to this Zimmer's "A beautiful lie" score and you have a potential masterpiece. Unfortunately, the completely unecessary punch which triggers the shot ruined it.
I disagree that Thomas Wayne shows cowardice in BB. Snyder's TW says nothing so his intention is conveyed by his actions. However, Nolan's TW also steps in front of Martha and Bruce, which is why he takes the first bullet. He then dies telling Bruce not to be afraid, which ties in with conquering his fears to become Batman. Remember that in BB they find themselves in that alley because Bruce wanted to leave the opera due to his fear of bats and he even blames himself afterwards because of this.
The emphasis is different between the scenes. Nolan focused on Bruce's relationship with his father while Snyder emphasised Thomas' love of Martha. Notice how his parents are either side of Bruce in BB whereas in BvS his father switches position to walk between them and be closer to his mother.
Rewatch the scene. He gets shot when the mugger points the gun at Martha Wayne. Thomas jumps in between them and the mugger shoots them. So if anything his death was brave because he was trying to protect his wife.
Tie between '89 and Begins, and I couldn't care less about their resemblance to what happened in the comics. As for BvS and Gotham, neither version of the scene left much impression on me other than the fact that in Gotham Bruce fell to his knees and screamed in an annoying way. I prefer Bruce to be in a stunned silence.
In Batman Begins atleast Thomas Wayne is trying to defuse the situation, yes he is afraid but considering his family is on the line I can't blame him. Some would call him a coward but since he is giving the guy what he wants without a fight it's more likely the thief will spare their lives.
BVS "MMA" Thomas is probably the biggest idiot of them all since he is not only escalating the situation but he's practically asking to get shot, when a man has a gun on you AND your family, your unarmed as in no blade, no gun just your fists you do not take a risk trying to fist fight.
"Always two there are , a master and an apprentice"
Both Begins and BvS's portrayal were great. Though I did take issue with Thomas Wayne trying to punch a criminal who has a gun pointed at him. Way to get yourself and your wife killed.
