Animated or with real people?

I have been looking forward to a new Asterix-movie for AGES. Will this be cartoonish, or with people? I don't want to see more Gerard Depardieu-movies, I want the animated films to return! There hasn't been any new ones since that stupid ole "Asterix in Amerika" thingie, and it pains me to say - but it's not really... as good as the classics.

I don't think it will be animated. I don't care the movies with Depardieu where funny to

reply

It will be an animated feature.

reply

Animated, thankfully.

How wonderful! Um, if I have to be honest I don't know if the movies with Depardieu suck, I just don't want to watch 'em. Asterix is an animated little fella, so I want to keep him just like that in my mind. I don't want to think about some french dude in a fake mustache when I think about one of my favourite cartoon characters:P Hm, in some weird way the word 'cartoon' didn't sound correct connected with Asterix. But I didn't know which word to use instead:S

We are producing it fully animated, hand drawn, good old "2D". We do use a little 3D as well, but only for stuff like boats etc., where previously one would use models. (By the way: this will be the first Asterix feature where the lines of the characters actually look like Uderzo's original lines. So the clean-up people are prematurely gray-haired...)

cool i bet your danish since you say we produce it (cause its a danish company whitch produces the new asterix cartoon):-)

Actually, the producer is M6 in France.
At A. Film in Denmark, we 'just' made the picture for them. Many of the people here in Denmark that are working on the film are not Danish at all, we are many different nationalities (but the two directors are danish).
Because of the high quality demands, we have also had to sub-contract parts of the most labour-intensive areas out to many different countries - that is the only way this type of animation can be done these days. But the quality contol is danish. And in my biased opinion, it's looking great!

Note that the official teaser-trailer is now available on http://www.asterix.com - have a look!

but is it in Denmark, that you are producing it?

The all the planning and the hub of the network of animation studios that work on the picture is at A. Film in Denmark. Direction, models, art direction, supervising animation, color styling & editing - all in Denmark.

that was also what i meant.

Mr. Uderzo was shown our film "Help! I'm a Fish" and decided that we were the right studio to make his next film.

reply

Oh, that explains why the fish served to Océanonix looks so much like the hero from "Help! I'm a Fish".
(at 1:03:25 on DVD)

It is fairly detailed, so I suppose it is an actual reference.

reply

It is! Good catch!
