Interesting translation

A friend who grew up in southern California told me that the term "Spanglish" has been used (since well before this movie was made) to mean the way the Spanish and English languages have interbred in that area, especially with English words being adapted to fit Spanish spelling and grammar rules.

When we lived in southern California, I remember hearing (while waiting in line for a pay phone) one end of a Spanish-language conversation, liberally sprinkled with "okey" (which of course means "okay" and is pronounced just like it).

This is one bit of Flor and John's discussion, with Cristina acting as translator:

John: All right! All right!
Cristina (translating into Spanish): ¡Okey! ¡Okey!

The discussion is so rapid, with some overlapping, that I suspect many people don't notice that, but it cracks me up because it's simultaneously realistic and ironic. Also, it may well be the only instance of actual "Spanglish" in the entire film.
