So this movie was about...

Alright, so this movie is led by Adam Sandler in casting, obviously. But the movie is really barely about John Clasky at all. Of course his restaurant is an element of the film, as well as his dwindling marriage, and romance with Flor, but this movie is really all about Flor and Cristina first and foremost. Clasky is simply a supporting character in this film. His entire character plot was even left seemingly unfinished. I liked seeing this in Adam Sandler, as if he took a step back to allow the other characters to fully develop around him. John's wife has her own issues and character development which brings about intensity and drama throughout, and Evelyn's character brought a comedic tune to the picture, which was pleasant. I enjoyed this movie, though I do think the cast list, if not for the reasons of Hollywood and marketing a film, should have billed Paz Vega and Shelbie Bruce first, and followed the cast list with Sandler, Leoni, Leachman, etc.

But we all know Sandler pulls a lot of weight on top of the cast list, yet it was still a bomb.

Great movie!

This isn't an Adam Sandler movie. It's a vehicle to introduce Paz Vega to an American public. Sandler is so secure in his place that he does things like this.

Just as John Wayne used to take bit parts after his career was established, to make statements about things he believed in.

Yeah, as J-Porter said, I am pretty sure there was never any intent for this to be a "Sandler movie." I even question whether there was much value in casting him in it. His character was important, certainly, but I'd think it would have been as well played or better by a number of other actors. This was a James Brooks movie that happened to include Sandler & Leoni. But the lead characters were Flor and her daughter.
