This movie is not about him--about Clasky. It's about Cristina and her mom, and what it takes for Flor to keep her little family together. The whole thing is about how Flor's love and commitment to Cristina keeps Cristina for falling into the cheap values of this particular American family. (Don't blame me--that's how the values are portrayed here.) The fact that Clasky disagrees with the values being built in his family is heroic, as Flor is heroic. Flor takes Cristina away from all of that, and Clasky goes home to his family. Sorry that Clasky doesn't pursue Flor for a cheap piece of tail. They both have character and integrity--things that are missing in the value systems of a lot of people.
shareThe scene only shows that John Clasky is willing to sacrifice his affections for Flor for the sake of his family especially the children. The moment that he did not run after her symbolizes that.
shareThis.
They both sacrifice happiness with each other for their kids. Flor wants to preserve their cultural upbringing and he wants to preserve his whole family unit.
It happens...when you marry, you hit rough spots and there are often several moments were you contemplate leaving. Some of those moments include meeting people you just click with it. Whether for love of your wife, kids, or the family as a whole, you make a decision whether to preserve it or not.
Flor had to sacrifice her feelings for her daughter, as did John for his family. We never see if he takes back his wife but I wouldn't be surprised if he did for his children. That characteristic is what bonded them, there ability to put the needs of others before there own. I have no doubt there love for each other was real but it didn't matter because they had commitments
"Troubled childhood? If you consider a 9 year old kid with a 35 year old girlfriend troubled."
Exactly, it's about family, not love! "Spoilers" If you remember, Bernie comes to John when he gets home, what she is there for is assurance of the family, that he and Deborah are going to try and work things out, kids love their parents and want to continue to see them together, even when they continually tear each other apart.
Flor doesn't just quit, she takes Cristina away from it all, and back to the way they were living before, removing her from the school, which is ignorant IMHO because we all want better for our kids, that would be a step in her getting an education that won't land her as someone else maid/servant. She fell in lone with John, but couldn't be with him without sacrificing the lifestyle that she wanted her daughter to grow up in, because we all know, kids that have everything tend to appreciate it less. Cristina was starting to act just like those other kids, talk back, think only of herself, she had no problem with lies being told to her mother, caused her to miss a family get together that evidently is rare due to the distance which they live apart.
The one thing I have found from broken women like Deborah, they cheat because it gives them 2 lives, she stopped, big deal, after a short time she'll be right back at it, I know, it's who they are, you can't change it, she will continue to make them all unhappy, or did you miss the scene with Bernie, after her reaction her response was it is normal actions from her mom.
This is a great movie if you are looking for reality, there wasn't a big bow happy ending scene, just like life, they all went back to their normal lives, problem with that is, people are looking for an escape from reality, leaving little to no interest in movies like this.
Wasn't me
Hi I just saw this movie. I believe she runs off because of his reaction to her words. For a split second he looks overwhelmed, looks away, than looks at her and smiles nervously. She understands immediately for expressions are louder than words. He does not love her back, he is at his most vulnerable and needs a warm body to hold; he has genuine affection for her, but does not love her the way he loves his wife. She jumps back to reality and knows she must not go down this road, knowing what it will do to her emotionally and making her fail to be present as a parent- the only parent her daughter has.
shareno I remember that scene very well. They basically said they were going to say whatever they wanted but once their feet touch the floor that was it. She said "I love you" and ran off because she knew that nothing would ever happen and she didn't want it to and she wasn't going to give him a chance to react.
shareJust get Flor & John together.
We can sort out the details later.
Ain't the way it works - but a romantic thought..
actually here is how the restaurant scene went: she tells him she loves him, and he says "Whaat?.. Cause i ve been..." She then puts her feet down and takes off.
I think it was clear he was about to say "Cause i ve been having the same feelings too" or sth to that extent, and the way he puts his hand on her face as he is starting to speak, combined with his expression which is one of joy and excitement, also suggest that.
I think she realized that, so she put her feet down, symbolizing that nothing is gonna happen, and leaves.
Therefore, it was exactly because he had the same feelings, that she rushed out of the restaurant, as staying there would have consequences. As she leaves, the final look on his face is one of acknowledgement for what she just did, and the reason behind it.
And having established that (that he also loves her), thats why in the parting scene she again calls him "my love", she knew by then that it was mutual.
thats it.
