Adam Sandler needs to make more movies like this

When he's really trying, he can be a serious and moving actor. I wish he'd take a break from childish comedy and make more films like Spanglish.

Agreed. His performance in this movie, Punch Drunk Love, and especially Reign Over Me proves that he can totally pull off great dramatic acting. While I enjoyed his comedies in the 90s, I don't think that type of humor works for him now. But, they still bring in money, so I guess he's not going to stop yet.

I liked this movie, but I thought he was wrong for it. I don't mind his comedies, but in this one there were scenes in which I couldn't tell if he was making a joke or if he just didn't know how to look serious in a scene.

Spanglish wasn't a box-office hit, and I'm willing to bet Punch Drunk Love fared even worse (I'm not familiar with Reign Over Me). I think he's mostly stuck to comedies because they've always served him well (some better than others), which is a shame because I've never cared for Billy Madison and the like.

Ditto. Thought this was a good step aside into a semi drama/comedy role.

Loved his original comedies (I'm a dude, what can I say) but would like to see him in more roles like these.

Agree. I love this film and think Adam Sandler suits the serious roles, rather than childish comedies where he casts himself with actresses way out of his league!

I thought all his attempts at playing this as a romance are way off base. Too many things to point out, but the biggest was when she was trying to tell her feelings and his response was that stupid look and some form of stupid outburst.

IMO he needs to stick with those insane movies where his acting goofy and stupid is well placed.
