It was extremely disturbing, especially with the way it was shot. Normally you get shots from different angles. But because the film was shot focusing on the rapist's face, you get the sense that you are experiencing what Neil is experiencing.
This is what I wanted to point out. I think the angles in this is what makes the scene. I havent seen alot of rape scenes in movies, maybe I'm sheltered but what Ive seen and in my own life.. Rape is bad any way you look at it. This was more about the violence. Its always sad to see a rape that you feel like is apart of your own doing. Whether drinking or being alone at a party or in the extreme case, a small prostitution gig.. its really sad that some of society points their finger at the victim, it shouldn't even be acknowledged in my opinion. If its unwanted, its unwanted. Period.
Most of this movie fell flat for me as far as storyline but I guess it was just a weird way to connect two unlikely characters. I thought they were great together. It shows so many instances where the character is put in these awkward situations. Although I own this movie, I'm not pulling it out all the time to watch it. Levitt is great.. the only movie that really rings true for me is Brick however on a sidenote.
