Did anyone else feel sick watching the rape scene?

I felt like vomitting, I was so disturbed. The paedophile scenes were pretty cringeworthy also but the rape scene really messed me up. I don't think I'll be able to ever watch this movie again. I thought it was brutally honest in the way it dealt with the subject matter and a pretty good movie, but I was so disturbed I don't think Ill ever be able to watch it again...

Yeah. I was okay with the rest of the film but that made me feel ill.

Yep. I felt like that. I also cried pretty hard. Actually, the whole movie made me feel nauseous. I knew it wasn't going to be a fun movie, but it made my skin crawl more than I expected. The performances were outstanding.

It is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.

It was extremely disturbing, especially with the way it was shot. Normally you get shots from different angles. But because the film was shot focusing on the rapist's face, you get the sense that you are experiencing what Neil is experiencing.

This is what I wanted to point out. I think the angles in this is what makes the scene. I havent seen alot of rape scenes in movies, maybe I'm sheltered but what Ive seen and in my own life.. Rape is bad any way you look at it. This was more about the violence. Its always sad to see a rape that you feel like is apart of your own doing. Whether drinking or being alone at a party or in the extreme case, a small prostitution gig.. its really sad that some of society points their finger at the victim, it shouldn't even be acknowledged in my opinion. If its unwanted, its unwanted. Period.

Most of this movie fell flat for me as far as storyline but I guess it was just a weird way to connect two unlikely characters. I thought they were great together. It shows so many instances where the character is put in these awkward situations. Although I own this movie, I'm not pulling it out all the time to watch it. Levitt is great.. the only movie that really rings true for me is Brick however on a sidenote.

reply

I didn't, but probably only because I've seen films with worse rape scenes and I've become sort of desensitized to it.

Conform or be cast out

Glad I'm the only one that didn't shed a tear during that scene.

Great performances all around - I really felt like I knew JGL's character and felt sick to my soul when watching it.

All the gay sex was cringe-inducing and absolutely repulsive

reply

There is no gay sex in this film.

This movie freaked me the *beep* out- it was soo real and just plain disturbing. I felt the need to share it with people, telling them this is something like you've never seen. Everyone i showed it to were both bothered and saddened. This scene was horrible, but that scene with the old man going down on Neil was THE worst- it was just sooo gross and disturbing.

Soo much of this movie got me pissed off because all these men (many who were probably married or cheating) just pissed me off. I have a really big pet peeve about that kind of thing.

I will never ever watch it forever

I didn't feel sick watching, but that scene was so shocking. Omg!

There's something wrong with Esther.
