I never saw the 12th season but I read somewhere that him and Alan got married. I'll probably end up watching it at some point even though I have a lot of shows on my plate but I was curious about this development.

No. They only Pretended to be gay so Walden could adopt a child. And despite a few ups and downs, and an obsessive social worker that both Walden and Alan date/sleep with - they're plan is successful and they are able to adopt a little boy.
