A type of episode they should have done.

A Christmas episode.

The premise is that the dead person who was killed years ago was killed wearing a Santa suit. He had no wallet and no ID, so he was never identified.

Years later, DNA discovers the identity of the dead Santa, so the case is reopened, and Lily investigates.

It could be set at Christmas, and the music used could all be Christmas songs. The episode can still maintain its dark edge, but also have some lightness and humor in a couple of scenes.

It could also have Lily dealing with Christmas, and realising that she is a bit of a loner, and tries to deal with that.

I quite like that idea :)

I could see a Christmas episode dealing with Lily's loner tendancies but I got sick of Lily's issues so I probably wouldn't enjoy it. Or maybe I could. Christmas can do that to me.

I thought it would interesting to have a thread of episodes Cold Case should have had.

Maybe it would be too controversial (and too soon) but I think an episode based on the Tupac/Biggie Smalls murders could be really interesting. That whole story reminds me of a Cold Case episode.

Why don't you write it and post it on http://www.fanfiction.net?

I've done that myself several times.

I've thought about this more and this is how I would have done it. Keep in mind that I am in no way suggesting what really happened. It's just an inspiration for a fictional story.

The episode begins by showing two black rappers in the mid 90s having a public feud. We then learn that they were both murdered, with a certain period between the murders.

The investigation reveals that A and B were childhood friends who grew up in a poor and rough neighbourhood. They wrote a rap together about their rough upbringing and it leads to them both finding success as rappers. A gets signed by a manager C which B doesn't like because he doesn't trust C and wants to do something differently. A gets shot by an unknown person and blames B. They end up having a bitter feud.

Eventually A confides in C that he feels bad about the way the friendship turned out and that he wants to reconcile with B. C tries to convince him not too and accidentally reveals that he delibrately let A think that B was responsible for the shooting when he wasn't. A is angry and says that he plans to call B after an upcoming concert and apologize for everything and see if they can make up. For several reasons (especially because he's afraid he'll lose control over A is he reconciles with B), C murders A (though probably waiting to make it look like it was somebody else). A little while later he has B killed too, partly to make it look like it was a retaliation for A's murder and partly because he just hates him.

During the ending montage, the rap they wrote together plays and it ends with somebody seeing A and B performing together in a friendly way.

As I wrote in another post, I think it would have been cool if they did an episode set during Beatlemania about a young diehard fan who gets murdered. The episode would use all Beatles songs and Yesterday would be the ending song.

I realize they may not have had the rights but I can still dream.
