deaths are unsatisfactory.
Considering the horrific acts of torture and mutilation they commit throughout the film and the amount of suffering they inflict, their deaths don't feel dramatically satisfying. They're far too quick. The relatively lenient nature of there punishment feels ill fitting in relation to the brutality of there crimes.
Agree with OP. Fantastic movie up until the unsatisfactory ending.
It's not that I wanted the killers to incur some Hostel-esque torture scene...but it was all over, so fast. Killer 1 kills Killer 2, and then Liam shoots Killer 1 after a 10 second fight.
I was left just thinking what the heck. No justice to make up for the brutality of their crimes. Just weird AA 12 step program commentary throughout the ending.

shareI should clarify that I don't feel the bad guys needed to be tortured for the ending to work on a dramatic level. The ending to Dirty Harry is a good example, where we see Scorpio being hunted by Harry and he's overcome by the same sort of fear that his victims would have felt. The ending to this film had no dramatic kick to it. Although the bad guys were defeated I came away feeling cold.
shareHow often in real life do vicious killers suffer the same fate as their victims? It rarely happens. Just because the movie does not end the way you might hope or expect it to does not make it a bad ending.
