Did the cops or FBI know about the killers?

That plot point has me really confused. It seems like they did but didn't want to track them because they were DEA, or ex-DEA?

I thought they killed the DEA agent and that's where they got the files. Not sure what the DEA thought or suspected, probably thought she was killed by the dealers she infiltrated

I agree. You would think they would be busting themselves to help Matt, because Marie Gotteskind was their colleague, but they don't appear to give a damn, which I have to admit I didn't quite understand. Possibly because Matt was an unlicensed PI.🐭
