DoubleSpeak

Re: The helicopter landing on the White House lawn by the upset pilot:

The news interviewed a military man, and he said (paraphrase) this:

'There's no doubt in my mind that if he had wanted to crash the helicopter into the White House, he certainly could have'.

He was then asked if he thought the pilot had that intention:

'Yes. I believe that.'

OK, so if the pilot had the intention to do so, then why didn't he? He didn't, even though he could have. So which statement is true?
Was even the reporter that daft not to ask?

I think this DoubleSpeak is the point of entry into people's minds so as to make them very susceptible to being lied to - point-blank.

I would go into this more, but I don't want to make myself crazy.
