Most comics are secretly depressed and suffer from insecurity and anxiety issues. The difference between them and non comedians is that they discovered that being funny and making people laugh makes them popular and well liked and so grow their comedic talent and become successful with it.

The downside to that is that people always expect them to be funny or say something funny and to always be "switched on". That's very difficult and it's a reason why so many have turned to drugs and alcohol and unfortunately paid the price with addiction.

Most likely the reason why Jon Lovitz has a therapy dog is because he probably has anxiety issues and having his dog with him helps him feel more calm. It's not unusual and in fact his dog is really adorable. In the end he's just a regular person like you and me who just happens to be famous because he is funny. And he has a lot of the same kinds of challenges that non famous people have.

It's amazing when watching this show how you wind up seeing certain celebrities show their true colors.

It makes the "ordinary" person feel that these celebs are no better than the average Joe.

I remember watching Meat Loaf one season and he just went on a huge rant and explained he had issues with his anger and apologized for it, but to see that on camera was just unreal.
