I miss the longer in depth episodes.

Anyone agree? A few seasons ago they started the 1 hour episodes where a lot of the task footage was taken out and the boardroom crammed in on the last 20 minutes; a lot of the talk, strategizing, and bonding/fussing missing. It just feels more fleeting, less important now.
Shoot, I enjoy the show and liked it dragged out. :/

Somewhere in-between for me.

Some shows had enough substance for the longer episode, but many were totally dragged out and drawn out to ad nauseam.

I also liked the longer episodes. The longer runtime worked to the shows advantage. Sometimes there would be a great assignment or great boardroom. The longer runtime allowed those to play out. When they returned to the hour format it made the show feel cramped and rushed.

As the guy who mocks The Walking Dead's filler, I really do see some value in the 2 hour apprentice episodes. It really does take more time to understand why a cast member was fired. Right now we're seeing barely a snapshot of the task and not seeing the level of interaction needed to see the personality.

It's too bad they have to cram the entire show in the 7 weeks between New Years and The Voice premiere. I also liked the 2 hour per task episodes of previous seasons. They would be better off putting it on Sundays after Football and Award season is over.

I also miss the longer boardrooms, the boardrooms I find the most interesting part of the show.

I like the shorter episodes. There is less time shown for so much dislike between the contestants.

Also i thought that the Governator did a really good job. He doesn't ogle the women like Donald did and give them credit for being gorgeous. He expects them to do a good job.

reply

Well I wish they would show more of the task. I was impressed with how the women decorated the room for the make up task and I found it strange how they didn't show ANY of it. They definitely used to devote more airtime to showing the actual task duties. I could do with LESS boardroom time. I always found it very boring and repetitive.

The ladies didn't dress the room.

I agree. I almost wonder if some of the stuff isn't even done by the contestants anymore (buying props etc). All of it just appears which removes a lot of the drama. I really don't understand why they are even bothering. It feels like they are just burning off the episodes. If NBC can't commit, why should I?

reply

Yep, agreed. The ratings aren't great, and with the show's producers cutting out, seemingly a big deal, of the footage that would probably attract viewers (an extended argument between Boy George and Vince Neil for example), the delivery of the money to the contestants charity, etc....I can't help to wonder:why?

Honestly, I think NBC and Mark Burnett did that un purpose this season. They went back to the basics like season 1 in 2004 to see what people like and dislike about the show. Then I am confident NBC will renew the show for 1 more season to improve on the changes based on fans reactions. Arnold is a good host and is starting to find his grove. Its not fair to compare Arnold to Trump as Arnold only had 2 episodes thus far where as Trump has been host for 14 seasons. If Arnold has many more seasons, people will warm up to him. Also Arnold is more well liked than Trump.

The tasks and boardrooms are about to get exciting and so are the advisors.

Also the ratings have been low the first two weeks as its been up against major football competition from ESPN that brought in 15-25 million viewers. Now with the competition back to normal this week, no football, Trump had his press conference last week, Trump taking office in 5 days, and Warren Buffet on the show, ratings should rise this week and the weeks to come.
