Silly. The twist but mainly Dae Su's reaction to it *spoilers*

"......you slept with your daughter"
"What..? No! I will be your slave and your doggy" *licks feet and cuts out tongue*

Really? This was so silly. And Woo-jin killing himself? Why? We didn't see him in that much pain, so what was the point.

Perhaps Korean culture assigns far more shame to being a victim of incest than other places. Sure incest is pretty questionable, but when you're victim to an elaborate plan designed to set you up, I don't see why that's so shameful.

Dae-su knew woo-Jin had men who would carry out his orders even if he died, and in the end it was his groveling that made Woo-Jin change his mind.
And I think he distracted himself from his pain with his revenge and torturing Dae-su. You can see in his face right before he kills himself that his vengeance wasn't enough, and he is still tortured by the memory of his sister.

I don't get it either. the guy wants revenge through out the whole movie, when he gets the chance he just converts into a dog... what???

reply

Dae Su groveled like a dog because in Asian cultures, a dog is the lowest life-form and symbolizes total obedience and subservience. He prostrates himself in front of Woojin and begs him to never tell Mido that she's his daughter, begs him to spare her the painful agony of discovering that she had sex (and is in love) with her own father. To prevent her from finding out, Dae Su was willing to do anything, he was willing to forsake his own need for revenge out of love for her.

Woo Jin killed himself because he obviously blames himself for his sister's death and he killed himself because his plan of 15 years came to an end and if I'm not mistaken he said something along the lines of "what do I have to live for now?" Or something

Did you miss the whole part where the henchmen would've told his daughter what happened?
