So underrated

I don't understand why this movie gets no appraisal at all. Of all the identity swapping films (including the incredible Talented Mr Ripley") this is by far the best. It's got a gripping storyline and terrific acting. Despite it being so obvious, even the twist ending was far from being mediocre.

I totally agree with you. I enjoyed the movie and I am also surprised at the reaction here on IMDB. I think it has to do with Angelina. She's a beautiful woman and they tend to take the talent away from her because of that. I think she put up a nice performance in this movie. And overall, i'd give it a 7.2.

i somehow agree. The story may be too familiar but this one was good. The ending may be somehow unpredictable but still good. Maybe I haven't seen other better movies than this but I do believe it deserves a higher rating.

I enjoy this movie also but I'd give it a 7 tops. The first time I saw it I thought it was pretty bland. It is pretty slow but overall it's a good movie IMO. I wouldn't be surprised if alot of the negative ratings are based on people's resentment of Angelina Jolie. Something I can't help but find humorous.

Funny, I was talking about this earlier. We couldn't remember the name of it or any of the actors. By a process of elimination we finally managed to find it. That the story stuck in our minds yet we couldn't remember the actors saya a lot about it.

I enjoyed it the first time around and I'm now going to see if I cen get a copy to watch it again.

Definately underrated, 5 is too low it should be closer to 7.

I think the biggest problem is that it takes place in Canada. The idea that there was a country outside of the US left American audiances dazed and confused and generally scared, so the movie never gained popularity.

Because it really is quite a good movie, though I have seen better.

Lol, that is so true. :)

Well I liked it from memory so they can eat me.

Wait... There are other countries in the world...?? OMG!!! When was I going to be informed??? heh...

I was just in quebec city and montreal a couple weeks ago. (road trip with friends) it was a nice. Canada is nice country.

Believe it or not, some people who thought movie was lacking feel that that way for reasons that have nothing to do with Angelina, Canada or Ethan Hawkes' ears.

The plot is pathetically predictable. And for all the talk of how Jolie's supposed to be this amazing profiler, they have her behave like a first class ninny, not even question Hawke's reliability JUST A LITTLE when she first meets him. Just cause he doesn't react to her textbook tests (the file, the reaction to the garrot), she doesn't think "Hmm, maybe this guy like anyone else who's owned a television in the past 20 years, might have learned something from 80 billion cop shows." Her character defines the Unprofessional Detective.

I would have loved this movie if her character had never fallen for Hawke for a minute. They could have done a movie in which the fantastically beautiful cop is also professional, intelligent, and not just waiting to jump into bed with the first aw-shucks guy she meets.

You know what it is? I doubt that people can stretch their minds for two seconds and put Angelina Jolie in a movie where she's NOT a panting, sexually deviant sex kitten. I believe the last time that happened was the Bone Collector, which for it's flaws, at least allowed Jolie to be a strong investigator who (gasp, shriek) NEVER shows her tits or *beep* any of the leading characters.

But naturally, Jolie is always shown to be a sex freak. Yawn.

And gosh, I'm totally intimidated by a movie set in Canada. That's just so out there. Crazy. I mean, Canada? What's that? EEK! I mean it's not like anyone there speaks English, right? Not like everyone in the northern United States has not only heard of it, but probably been there more than once, right? Not like it's so unintimidating that most Americans don't even think of it as a real country, huh? Golly gee whiz.

Know what movie setting actually freaks me out? A sadomasochistic torture-porn flick like Hostel. And Canada, of course.

All these kinds of movies are underrated. You shouldn't let it bother you. They may not have the highest cinematical value but they have a very good entertainment value IMO, which is also important.

A similar movie (also with Jolie) is the bone collector, which is also great IMO.

I gave this a 7. Which is justified IMO.

and btw The Talented Mr. Ripley is way better than this, you should see it again some time. It's brilliant.

The film is very different on a very tiny point actually.

When we look at films 99% of the time the film is from a male point of view even if there's a female lead role involved, we always tend to identify with the male role (male & female viewers). In this case the lead character is female and the other lead is a male. We can not identify with the male because he is a killer (we try but we can't) So we are stuck with the female role to identify with, and this very notion is very uncomfortable for the average viewer, especially because he has no idea that almost every form of visual entertainment is from a male perspective.

Cheers,
K.
