I bought a gun but don't know how to use it

I got a kick out of that statement he made to the police. I guess the writer forgot what country the movie was set in.
No way would anyone be allowed to legally buy a handgun in Canada if they hadn't passed a written and practical test for the "Canadian Firearms Safety Course" and then as it's a handgun passed the "Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course." After all that they'd better know how to use it.

It was written for an American audience obviously, and there's no state that requires an individual to pass any kind of training course merely to buy a gun. Sellers will perform background checks, especially on handguns, and in many states you have to have a firearms purchaser ID card, but that only requires a fee, fingerprinting and a deeper background check.

Most states do require you to pass a safety course for a hunting license.

It was set in Canada.

Are you suggesting that if a movie made for American audiences is set in England it should show people driving on the right side of the road, etc. just because that's how it works in Amur'ca?

Very good point and that's the first thing my husband and I wondered about as soon as we heard it. I don't know why they would think anyone who knows anything about owning guns legally would buy that hogwash. I hate that Hollywood is to busy pumping out stupid movies to ACTUALLY check their facts. I personally love this movie even with it's flaws but I just wish they would stop screwing up little nuances in great movies.

He never said he bought it legally and Jolie's character (an American FBI agent) probably didn't care.
