Possible Plot Hole..? Spoilers

First, I like this film.

However, if Martin Asher was the hermit crab he was supposed to be, why would he knowingly or purposely STILL want James Costa with all that police presence?
I get that James Costa was Martin Asher and it was all apart of Martin's plan to throw the police off b/c he was in the middle of taking another person's life and therefore had to become the "witness" and he owed Sutherland's character money. BUT, no psychopath is going to hang around with all that police presence. I think the police should have thought about this. Like, a real killer would just move on...run away no? IDK...that just didn't make any sense to me.

My two cents on that were that

A) he knew that the police wasn't just going to let him go, he was an "eyewitness" to the attack and whether he was a cooperative witness or not, the cops weren't going to let him go until they had the 'killer' in custody.

B) Bringing me to the second continuation on the first one, Since he the sole living "eyewitness"his life was also in jeopardy and the cops couldn't let him be the next target hence the reason Ileana, LeClair and the others constantly surrounding Costa/Asher; the sole eyewitness and possible next target.

C) Lastly, "Costa" was a serial killing, sociopath. He thought since he got away with murder and taking lives for nearly 20 years that he was untouchable. His staying close to the investigation was his way of getting off on it, reliving his crimes and trying to stay ahead of the investigation. Plus he wanted to screw one over on Angelina Jolie's character.

Thanks for clearing that up and yes... I misspoke..."Costa" was a sociopath, not a psychopath.
