This movie went to *beep* right when

the new truck load of survivors arrived. All tension and credibility out the window. Don't worry, I know I am kind of a lone wolf when bashing this film, but that's ok. Every horror genre needs a mainstream, pop movie to put the kids to bed at night.

Truck arrives:

Weird characters
Too many characters
Pregnant situation was weird enough, mainly because zombie baby-i know OG had pregnancy
Stupid people let obvious zombie woman in
Ving Rhames tells Andy Fort blah is gone - Andy responds: What's the bad news? Sarcasm? Now??? And using SIGN language sarcasm? Now???
Inappropriate love side stories-writer formerly wrote teen movies? Idk.
Genuine happiness during apocalypse: Montage scene showing time passing depicts everyone getting along with life. At least OG shows fake happiness, empty sex.

Lets be real. Snyder today isn't totally regarded as Hollywood's elite. Watchman is amazing. 300...meh. He did direct one of my fave Jordan vids growing up though.

I don't compare this to the OG too much because I came into this excited. Then let down.
It would have worked with maybe 4 or 5 of the best characters only: Ving, Lead security guy, TV salesman, old lady...maybe that's it. I didn't even like the main blonde too much.

This was more like the Walking Dead inside a mall, but lesser. I didn't mention the tropes because all horror movies can't escape them.

There weren't enough dead in this dead movie. Too many survivors. Didn't feel like there was a threat, well, in my face cuz this movie is still regarded as a great one by most. I wonder why.

Nah you're not alone, I actually like this movie, but I still think it's dumb. Because it has so many errors.
Oh and I would have shot that dog. What a troublemaker.

Nicole or Chips?

Thank you, I'm here all week!

While I do like this movie, I can't disagree with any of your points (except your dislike of Ana; I thought she was awesome). It definitely has its flaws. The original is still better.

reply

Watching it right now and I agree. That was so stupid to let people in when they didn't know what their condition/circumstances were.

It was that dumbass Ana & Michael were. Especially Michael. I guess he wanted to bone Ana really bad (who knows why) and was willing to do anything she asked to try to get on her good side.

Yes, I agree. It spirals out of control when the cannon fodder arrives. I'm not sure there is a causal link because there is so much else wrong with the movie. I think DotD has such a good rep because the production values are high and it's the standard zombie cliches executed technically better than ever before, a sleek production.

For me it was when the lights went down and they showed the studio logo

Don't give up the fight for truly independent cinema!

This is the main one that bothered me. There may have been miscommunication between the writing of the script and the way the makeup was applied, but that's the director's job to sort out.

They went over the top when the world (2004) was ready for realism. We already had a 28 days Later by that time.

The problem with the hype machine for this movie is that people fell in love with the beginning, then gave it an eternal pass for the rest of the movie.

The original was beloved for its corniness, epic feel, and originality. After that came out there was no middle ground between. Either too gory, unrealistic, or fill in the blank.

Ranting. I don't hate this movie, cuz my sister likes it.
