Something I find strange

Shortly after the parents got married, the kids were already referring to their new step parents as "mom and dad". I find it weird that they were so quick to accept new parental figures into their life, especially with rebellious characters like Drake and Megan. Usually when a new parent comes in, a kid isn't going to want to acknowledge them with that kind of label so fast. Right off the bat, Drake's step dad was "dad" and Josh's step mom was "mom".

What makes it weirder is that when kids refer to step parents as parents, it usually means their biological figure is deceased. No kid's going to want to replace his dead parent that soon. Even if that's not what they're necessarily doing, that's the kind attitude it brings. But regardless, it doesn't matter what the circumstance is. As a child of divorce, I was NEVER compelled to call either of my step moms my mother. Whether the parents are alive or not, that doesn't just happen without a fight. The only reluctance Drake had was calling Josh his brother. I find it way too odd that he'd already give his step dad the same label as his dead father.

It was never confirmed that Drake's father died, though.

That's usually the case though when it comes to talking to step parents that way. But like I said, whatever the situation is it's just weird.

I think because it's a kids show that's why they say mom dad, drakes dad and Josh's mom has never been mentioned which is odd.. Didn't you notice that drake and Megan started to call Walter by his first name in season 4
