how did this show get cancelled?
just out of curiousity.
shareIt wasn't "cancelled." They decided to end the show partly because Drake and Josh were getting older and they didn't want to drag it out unrealisticly. Drake then went on to pursue his music career, which seems to be his real passion, and Josh went onto some more serious acting.
Plus, Miranda got her own show and much of the crew moved onto working on that. 4 seasons seems to be about the general lifespan of these shows.
I just want to tell you both good luck. We're all counting on you.
Sucks, I would have liked to see more. But I do like iCarly.

The show ended (not cancelled) because of that 3 season/65 episode limit that is given on most (if not, all) of the shows on Nick, Disney, and Cartoon Network.
shareActually, that was only a Disney Channel "requirement" pre-2003. Although, they still try to do with their "lesser" shows. Nick and CN have never limited their shows in such a manner.
shareYeah, I was pretty certain that was just a Disney thing too (I mean, how else would Rugrats have stayed for so long, and All That), and it was pretty stupid. They cancelled a lot of shows too early and some of them were in their prime. Anyway, I'm gonna say Drake & Josh was cancelled for the same reasons other posters here have said: they were too old. Being set in high school makes it hard to maintain its realism when 4 years have passed. It's also possible that the leads wanted to move onto different things, mainly Drake probably, who I'm betting was itching to get into his music career. I think they may have just thought it was the time to end the show, and saw an opportunity to start a new show with Miranda Cosgrove.
shareHold the phone. Are you saying that All That and Rugrats didn't deserve the time they got? Maybe Rugrats, but All That served a very, very important role in Nickelodeon.
All That spawned Kenan and Kel. That didn't go anywhere except to two crappy movies. But it also spawned the Amanda Show. Which featured, among others, Drake and Josh. Drake and Josh both went off and became the show we all love. And from them, although it isn't a spin-off per-sais, we get iCarly.
All That also gave us Kablam, which gave us Angela Anaconda and Action League Now!, so don't go making it sound like it didn't deserve a long run. The last seasons sucked. Absolutely. But they should bring it back with new actors. Ones that grew up watching it as kids.

I think it came to the end of its natural life span and Drake got too thin!!
