Beats me.

I just watched it, and there's nothing racist in it. But... since there are a few african-americans and chinese in it, I guess it just HAS to be racist.

The only thing that you MIGHT be able to accuse this movie of, is stereotyping the african-americans and/or chinese. But that has nothing to do with racism...

It's not overtly racist, but there are some things in it that border on not being PC.

A black woman calls a white man a cracker. And the few black charecters that are in the movie are sort of squeezed into stereotypical roles by using poor grammer and working in a beauty shop.

And there's a white character who speaks with what's supposed to be an asian accent, and gongs go off almost everytime he appears on screen. Also he and the other asians in the movie own a nail salon, but are secretly running an operation that sells pirated movies and cds. Stereotypes gallore.

it's not racism, just stereotyping. you would have to actually be chinese to be offended by it. but most people just laugh when they see that kind of thing about their race.

reply

I'm not asian and I thought it was a little offensive. So yeah, speak for yourself.

You people calling this film racist are so petty, it really is unbelievable!

I dont know what the black woman calling a white man a cracker has got to do with race, but maybe someone can fill me in.

The thing about the black people working in a beauty shop can be forgotten as there was a film made recently made by black people about a beauty salon, a comedy which I bet was full of sterotypes - I really cant stand this sort of argument. In shows and films like the fresh prince of bel air any white person in it are always cast as the geek or the moronic bully jock, yet they dont get calls of racism!

A character wearing afro wigs is not racist, they are wigs. White people had big hair like afros in the 70's. Does that mean if I go to a fancy dress party dressed in 70's clothes with an afro wig, or went as a geisha, or maybe an egyptian I would be racist? Please!

The thing about the Asian people adopting a white person is pathetic, how is that racist? Are you saying that asian people can't adopt people of other races? "like a joke on how many americans adopt girl chinese babies" - what has this got to do with race? Are you saying it is wrong to adopt girl chinese babies, maybe if chinese girls werent so unwanted by their own country and parents there would be no problem!

That fact that the Asians own a nail salon is not racist, lots of asian people have nail salons, there are two nail salons owned by Asian people in my town! They had the white man who speaks with an oriental accent in the film as a comedy dumb man, does that mean I can say it was racist against white men, as pretty much all the white male characters in this movie are idiots (the train conductor, the train ticket seller, the teacher)

Your reasons for this movie being racist are laughable. It seems like there are some people who will pick through everything just looking for things that they can shout RACIST at. Most people are not racist, it seems that some people of non-white races cant just get on with life without thinking that people are out to get them. I bet if anything goes wrong in your life you blame it on racism. Get a life!

I know what you're doing... and I like it.

Stereotyping and racism are NOT the same thing.

Stereotype:
1. A conventional, formulaic, and oversimplified conception, opinion, or image.
2. One that is regarded as embodying or conforming to a set image or type.

Racism:
1. The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.
2. Discrimination or prejudice based on race.

Stereotyping does not imply any ill-feeling towards those being stereotyped. It can be (and most often is) harmless.

Racism is (always) evil, unjustified and pathetic.

If you can't be offended for another race, then you're a sad individual.
